OGC and SSSI Working Together to Enhance the Capacity of Spatial Professionals Across Australia

OGC will work with Australia's peak body representing the interests of surveying and spatial science professionals to address industry trends and work towards a sustainable future

21 August 2019: The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is excited to announce that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI). The Surveying & Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI) is Australia's peak body representing the interests of surveying and spatial science professionals, combining the disciplines of land surveying, engineering & mining surveying, cartography, hydrography, remote sensing, and spatial information science.

Under the MoU, OGC and SSSI will work together to better address current and future surveying industry challenges and trends, enhance the capacity of spatial professionals across Australia, and support the use of geospatial and location information to achieve the  UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Dr Nadine Alameh, CEO of OGC, and Dr Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse FRGS FSSSI, President of SSSI, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in New York on 7th August, 2019. Mr Mark Reichardt, former President and CEO of OGC and Mr Simon Callaghan, Director of the Australian Trade Commission, USA, and former SSSI Board Member witnessed the signing.

At the signing, Dr Mohamed-Ghouse stated, “SSSI looks forward to working with OGC. I am sure SSSI members will benefit from this collaboration agreement, especially understanding and applying standards in their respective professional practice.”

Dr Alameh agreed, stating, “I am excited to start this collaboration with SSSI as we continue to connect people, communities, technologies, and decision making with a foundation of geospatial standards in support of the surveying and spatial community in Australia.”
