Vitesse G-RocX(TM) SoC Enables CyberTAN to Deliver Industry's First Production-Level Home-Gateways for the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Market

TAIPEI, Taiwan—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 2, 2008— To deliver the industrys first production-level EPON FTTH Residential Gateway, CyberTAN, a leading Taiwanese original design manufacturer (ODM) of broadband networking equipment, is using Vitesse Semiconductor Corporations (Pink Sheets: VTSS) G-RocX Gigabit Router system-on-a-chip (SoC). Vitesse has simplified the ODMs development effort by providing the industrys most highly optimized solution that integrates a central processing unit (CPU) with Gigabit Ethernet switch and voltage-mode PHY technology into a single chip. The low-power SoC provides the performance needed to support triple-play networking service while simultaneously lowering overall bill of material (BOM) costs.

Vitesses G-RocX VSC7501 provides Gigabit LAN connectivity, including Gigabit Ethernet system performance and Quality of Service (QoS) technology, for Home Residential Gateways. This allows CyberTAN to quickly develop its family of high-performance gateways that meet the carrier-class video, data and voice delivery requirements of the FTTH market.

Vitesse is the first IC provider to achieve integration of a full-featured, six port Gigabit Ethernet switch with a high-performance router engine. The device includes triple speed 10/100/1000 Mbps copper PHY ports, line-side termination resistors, a router engine with a custom Hardware Network Address Translation (HNAT), a UART, two USB 2.0 interfaces, and a PCI port. The enhanced triple play experience is delivered through a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port. This connection provides optimal bandwidth to the home network, thus improving the quality of time-sensitive applications running in parallel, such as the concurrent delivery of Voice over IP (VoIP), data services, IPTV, HDTV, Video on Demand (VoD) and online gaming applications.

The custom HNAT, which offloads packet header extraction, SIP, ARP, and session table search, enables full Gigabit per second line rate routing. This high-performance router engine architecture significantly offloads software drivers and accelerates the delivery of wired and wireless Ethernet packets. G-RocX delivers a highly integrated SoC at less than 3 Watts enabling the removal of heat dissipating fans and the use of less expensive plastic housings further contributing to a lower system BOM.

Service providers today are looking for ways to capture lucrative revenue opportunities from triple play services. Vitesses highly integrated G-RocX host CPU architecture provides our ODM customers with a feature-rich, cost-optimized solution that meets Carrier residential gateway needs, said Brian Jaroszewski, senior product marketing manager at Vitesse.
