Buffalo Grove, IL - August 19, 2008 - For the second time in as many years Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing (NHLR) has been presented with the challenge of adapting to a new car. Just a few weeks before the start of the 2008 racing season it was announced that the Champ Car World Series, in which Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing had competed since 1983, was to be absorbed into the Indy Racing League’s IndyCar Series. The Indy Racing League rules require a totally different car, and most of the races are held at venues of which NHLR had no experience. “We were presented with a situation in which, in just three weeks, we had to prepare a car of which we had no experience, when normally we would expect to take four to six months,” said Brian Lisles, general manager of NHLR. “Our greatest enemy was time, and everyone within the team had to work long hours to get the cars ready for the first race. In addition to the physical preparation of the cars our engineers had to analyze the car systems and make improvements based on our experience. Having good tools available from CATI to speed the processes was vital, and the ease of use and sophistication of the SolidWorks CAD software and SolidWorks Simulation software played an essential part. In fact the guys did such a great job that we were able to win on only our second outing in the IndyCar Series.” Now that NHLR has passed the initial phase of changing series, getting used to a different car, and racing at new venues, the task is to improve and get in position to be a consistent front runner. “This is quite a challenge,” said Lisles. “We are up against teams who have been racing in the IndyCar Series for many years. With the help of CATI, we have already embarked on a substantial long term engineering program. In fact we have already spent many hours in the wind tunnel to better understand the car. SolidWorks CAD software is at the very core of our work. We have already produced many new parts for the car designed and developed within SolidWorks CAD software, and we will continue to do so all through the winter so as to be ready for the 2009 season.” About CATI Computer Aided Technology, Inc.
