The Mobile Intel(R) 945GSE Express chipset, consisting of the Intel(R) 82945GSE Graphics Memory Controller Hub and Intel(R) I/O Controller Hub 7-M, features power-efficient graphics with an integrated 32-bit 3D graphics engine based on Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 950 architecture with SDVO, LVDS, CRT, and TV-Out display ports. It provides rich I/O capabilities and flexibility via high-bandwidth interfaces such as PCI Express,* PCI, Serial ATA, and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity. It also includes a single channel for 400/533 MHz DDR2 system memory (SODIMM or memory down), and Intel(R) High Definition Audio interface.

"We are excited to support the next generation in Intel(R) architecture- based processors and chipsets which provide an ever increasing performance/power ratio for the evolving embedded market," said Dr. Gaurav Banga, CTO and SVP Engineering at Phoenix Technologies. "We remain committed to supporting the latest silicon and technologies from Intel that drive industry innovation and enable OEMs to achieve faster time-to-market at lowered costs. With the recent acquisition of General Software, we have extended our firmware leadership to a wide array of specialized high-value, high-margin devices."

Dr. Banga added, "Advances in underlying embedded technologies are enabling the rapid growth in the embedded market with software becoming an important source of differentiation in many industries. The worldwide embedded systems market is expected to grow rapidly in the next few years. We will help our ODM and OEM customers take advantage of this anticipated growth by enabling them with firmware solutions that can help them get to market quickly, reduce project risks and enjoy market differentiation for a wide variety of devices -- PCs to telecom/datacom equipment, servers, blades, and other embedded devices including medical, gaming, kiosks, point-of-sale, DVR, and commercial and military avionics."

"The N270 processor and 945GSE chipset are optimized for the low-power needs of many embedded applications in markets such as digital signage, interactive clients, thin clients, digital security, residential gateways, print imaging and industrial control," said Jonathan Luse, director of marketing, Low Power Embedded Products Division, Intel. "OEMs can use these products with Phoenix Technologies to speed time-to-market and meet the high performance-per-watt efficiency, flexible I/O and graphics needs prevalent in these market segments."

Using Phoenix Technologies' Embedded BIOS(R) with StrongFrame(R) Technology, BIOS developers can produce working prototypes in days, and finish deployments in weeks, due to the core's descriptive configuration management that uses intuitive and descriptive methods rather than assembly language. This type of accelerated deployment is especially essential when working with newly released architecture and a market eager for the new technology. With much less assembly code to write, OEM customers can achieve measurable results much earlier in the development process while at the same time reduce the amount of code that must be validated in system tests.

Phoenix Technologies offers rapid, low-risk deployment to the broadest range of the industry's chipsets, CPUs and SIO packages. Phoenix's expert firmware solutions are the fastest way to deploy BIOS on a target with ease and reduced risk, and embedded developers looking to develop a product with the Mobile Intel(R) 945GSE Express chipset can leverage the following advantages:

    -- Increased flexibility and configurability
    -- Shorter adaptation time
    -- Faster time to market
-- Lower total cost of ownership

Phoenix Technologies is a member of the Intel(R) Embedded and Communications Alliance, a community of communications and embedded developers and solution providers. Customers of Phoenix's firmware products have full support for the latest embedded Intel architecture processors as they are introduced.

About Phoenix Technologies' Embedded BIOS(R) with StrongFrame(R) Technology

StrongFrame(R) Technology is the framework that enables targeted cores to be built for every application, while leveraging common libraries of software across those cores. Embedded BIOS(R) with StrongFrame(R) Technology is the leading firmware offering ODM and OEM manufacturers unsurpassed configuration flexibility, rapid and risk-reducing deployment tools, deep compatibility with x86 industry standards, support for the widest range of embedded chipsets, CPUs, and SIO building blocks, and support for multiple core versions and module versions within the same architectural framework. Embedded BIOS(R) with StrongFrame(R) Technology addresses the entire lifecycle of products, from board bring-up, configuration prototyping, testing with system diagnostics, and product manufacturing to in-field diagnostics and software reload. Original Device Manufacturers (ODMs) choose StrongFrame(R) cores to gain the strength, flexibility, and long life expected from firmware supporting targeted applications that have special requirements, such as targeted PCs, mobile PCs, differentiated mainboards, industrial PCs, servers, telecom/datacom equipment, and embedded devices with unique needs.

Phoenix Technologies' Embedded BIOS is used for a wide range of applications including Ultra-Mobile PCs, industrial PCs, targeted PCs, differentiated mainboards, telecom/datacom equipment, server, blades, and embedded devices including medical, gaming, kiosks, point-of-sale, DVR, and commercial and military avionics.
