Research concludes 82 percent of drivers rate a map update purchase a fair, good or excellent value
NAVTEQ's 2008 Map Information Update Study reports that navigation system users in both Europe and North America are motivated to purchase map updates due to increased address coverage, new road layouts, overall map coverage and optimal route planning as a result of purchasing a new map update.
Overall, 82 percent of navigation system owners who have purchased a map update rate their purchase as a fair, good or excellent value.
"Increasingly, drivers are updating their navigation systems to have the freshest map information for the world around them," commented Jeff Mize, executive vice president, NAVTEQ sales. "Due to the volume of road network changes, new addresses and new points of interest like restaurants and gas stations, drivers are encouraged to update their navigation system maps once a year."
Depending on the navigation system, map updates are available on CD, DVD or SD flash cards. Drivers can purchase map updates for in-vehicle navigation systems through car dealerships and at http://www.navteq.com/store where maps for over 40 auto manufacturers and more than 200 different car models are available. Portable navigation device (PND) map updates are available from system manufacturers and at select retail outlets.
