Avago Technologies Connects 40Gb/s InfiniBand Network at SC’08

AUSTIN, Texas—(BUSINESS WIRE)—November 18, 2008— Avago Technologies, a leading supplier of interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, today announced their participation in SCinet’s 40Gb/s QDR InfiniBand network at the SC08 Conference being held in Austin, TX. Avago’s QSFP-based 10Gbps per channel parallel optical modules with their 100-meter reach allow widely dispersed participants to interact on the network.

SCinet, a high-performance network built to support the conference, will serve as the platform for one of the world’s fastest, high-performance computing eco-system demonstrations for supporting data-intensive supercomputing and grid computing applications. Running in over 9 participants’ booths will be a distributed visualization demonstration only capable through the use of 40Gb/s InfiniBand and fiber optic technology.

“A multi-vendor distributed QDR InfiniBand network is an ideal platform for demonstrating the high-channel capacity and high-performance capabilities of Avago’s 10 Gbps parallel optics technology,” said Dave Lee, worldwide product marketing manager for Avago Technologies’ fiber optic products division. “We continue to lead the industry for short range multi-lane data communications and interconnect applications with support for 10G parallel optics in high volume and our own proven supply of 10G VCSEL technology.”

“High-performance computing applications are increasingly demanding higher I/O performance for the shortest completion time and highest productivity,” said Sash Sunkara, vice president of marketing for Mellanox Technologies. “Avago 40Gb/s optical products combined with 40Gb/s InfiniBand adapters and switches based on Mellanox devices can help network managers interconnect their servers and storage for optimal performance.”

40 Gb/s InfiniBand demonstrations using Avago’s QSFP 10Gbps optical modules will be shown at Avago’s booth #2415. Additionally, the Force10 Networks® TeraScale E-Series® router/switch will reside in the SCinet NOC and leverage Avago’s XFP-LR to transport 10 Gb/s of Gigabit Ethernet data traffic through the network infrastructure. Supercomputing 08 takes place in the Austin Convention Center from November 18-21.
