NXP Semiconductors and MIPS Technologies Introduce Industry's First 45nm HDMI 1.3 Receiver IP Solution

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Companies Realize Vision to Offer HDMI Solution for Digital Home

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard architectures, processors and analog IP for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced that its cooperation with NXP Semiconductors has resulted in the industry's first 45nm HDMI 1.3 receiver IP solution. The companies announced one year ago that they were extending their strategic relationship to offer HDMI-based IP solutions for digital home applications, including high-definition DTVs and display units, A/V receivers and set-top boxes. Created through a combination of co-development and co-licensing, the HDMI receiver IP is integrated in NXP's global digital TV solution: TV550 platform, and is available for license as IP from MIPS Technologies.

"NXP is committed to delivering the best possible consumer listening and viewing experiences, and HDMI is vital to the sensory experience of HDTVs and beyond," Shanthi Padmanabhan, vice president and innovation & technology manager of the Home Business Unit, NXP Semiconductors. "We collaborated closely with MIPS throughout this development engagement, continuing to strengthen our relationship. MIPS Technologies' leadership and the expertise in high-performance analog IP solutions, along with its unwavering commitment to our success, were key to development of this next-generation IP for our digital consumer solutions."

"We're pleased to mark this milestone in our long and successful collaboration with NXP, fulfilling the joint vision we set forth a year ago," said Cesar Martin-Perez, vice president and general manager, Analog Business Group, MIPS Technologies. "NXP's leading position in the consumer IC market made it a natural partner in developing a compelling HDMI receiver IP solution for the digital home--a market where NXP and MIPS both experience great success."

The new HDMI 1.3 Receiver Interface is comprised of an HDMI RX controller and an HDMI RX PHY, and is based on production-proven 90nm technology. The controller features video interface flexibility supporting all CEA-861D video formats. It also supports True Color and Deep Color modes and several video pixel encodings, as well as Gamut Metadata. The controller also features audio interface flexibility, and has an integrated HDCP decryption engine and I2C slave interface for HDCP authentication. The HDMI 1.3 RX PHY features an automatic adaptive equalizer function and a variable number of input channels, and is capable of supporting cables up to 20m.

MIPS Technologies is uniquely positioned to offer the most comprehensive HDMI IP solution in advanced geometries, including a PHY and digital controller for both transmit and receive applications. MIPS Technologies' HDMI IP cores are uniquely optimized for HDMI connectivity in low power, portable transmit applications--including digital still cameras, camcorders, portable media players, game consoles and cell phones, as well as digital home receive applications. The HDMI IP solutions are available in a range of processes and are backed by a qualified connectivity IP engineering team and dedicated support team with deep expertise in HDMI connectivity and numerous foundry technologies.
