Avago Technologies Launches New High-Performance LaserStream Sensor for Use in High-End Gaming Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 19, 2009 Avago Technologies, a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, today announced a new high-performance laser navigation sensor designed for use in high-end, professional gaming applications. Based on Avago’s revolutionary LaserStream™ optical navigation technology, the ADNS-9500 features a powerful navigation engine that enables extremely high-speed motion detection and high resolution to provide precise tracking capabilities which are required for many of today’s most popular gaming applications. This new laser sensor is ideal for use in corded and cordless gaming laser mice, optical trackballs and a variety of motion input devices the require precise, high-speed tracking on a variety of different surfaces.

Avago’s ADNS-9500 gaming sensor incorporates an embedded pre-calibrated VCSEL in a single chip-on-board package to simplify manufacturing complexity. A separate round lens (ADNS-6190-002), which is available from Avago, is all that’s needed to complete the solution. The two components provide a complete and compact navigation system that has no moving parts. Moreover, a laser calibration process is not required to complete the sensor package making it ideal for high volume assembly. Some of the enhanced features offered by the ADNS-9500 include programmable frame rate and resolution, as well as configurable lift detection to satisfy the preferences of PC gamers.

“I’ve objectively tested the top-rated gaming mice in the past, and at the heart of these mice are Avago navigation sensors. This new innovative laser gaming mouse sensor from Avago offers dramatic improvements in high-speed motion detection which is needed in professional gaming mice,” said Sujoy Roy, technical director at Gamerbase Ltd. and founder of ESReality. “As a former professional gamer, I can really appreciate the enhanced programmability found in the ADNS-9500. Such flexibility allows mouse makers the ability to customize the gaming mouse to fit unique styles of play.”

Avago pioneered the optical navigation technology found in many of the mice being used throughout the world today, and elevated the performance required for gaming sensors. To date, Avago has shipped over a billion optical navigation sensors to a wide range of global customers.
