Autodesk at GDC Europe and gamescom 2009

September 13, 2009 - Autodesk, Inc., will exhibit at the 2009 Game Developers Conference (GDC) Europe and gamescom events in Cologne, Germany, from August 17−19 and August 19−22, respectively. The events will both be held at the Cologne Congress Center East. In Hall 4.2, stand G20, the company will showcase its latest middleware and art creation tools for creating innovative game experiences. Autodesk will also host a discussion with games industry veteran, Don Daglow.

Autodesk was recently named “Best Tools Provider” at the 2009 Develop awards. The company’s game authoring and runtime solutions have been used to create hit titles, including “Rock Band 2,” “Prince of Persia,” “Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning” and “FIFA 09.”

“GDC Europe and gamescom are two of the most important games conferences in Europe,” said Marc Stevens, vice president, Autodesk Games Group. “These events provide a great opportunity for European developers to learn how Autodesk games products can help solve both creative and technical challenges, so they can really focus on the game.”

Product Showcase
Autodesk offers game developers a broad set of technologies that can be used across the game art creation, animation and runtime environments. These tools help developers spend less time building workflows or solving redundant problems, and more time realizing their vision for the game. At its stand (Hall 4.2, stand G20), Autodesk will showcase the latest versions of its art creation and middleware products.

A Discussion with Don Daglow
On August 17, 2009, at 1 p.m. in the Europa Hall, show goers can attend a candid discussion between Don Daglow, an award-winning games industry veteran with four decades of experience in game design and development, and Mary Beth Haggerty, senior industry manager for Games at Autodesk. The conversation will explore storytelling, believable characters and the games business.

Autodesk and InterSense at gamescom
During the gamescom event, InterSense will be presenting its virtual camera — the InterSense Vcam — at the Autodesk stand (Hall 4.2, stand G20). Using the camera in combination with Autodesk MotionBuilder real-time animation software, artists can rapidly generate and test camera movements and track shots for films or games. This complementary toolset can help to accelerate the production workflow, as well as reduce costs.
