Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to use Rapid Response System for Alert Notification

(March 1, 2010/Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions, an information technology company specializing in geospatial solutions, has been selected by the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) to implement its Rapid Response System. The technology is an alert notification system designed to deliver high-speed phone, e-mail, or text messages to water and sewer system customers.

With its user-friendly, Web-based interface, the system has the capacity to deliver up to 120,000 phone calls per hour, in addition to providing high-speed e-mail and text messaging capabilities. PWSA will use the application to notify approximately 113,000 of its customers about such things as boil water advisories, water line breaks, hydrant flushing notifications, and planned outages. In this way, consumers have a greater chance of being promptly notified during a water emergency, thereby reducing the possibility of causing unnecessary hardship.

This implementation facilitates compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Chapter 109 Safe Drinking Water regulations that go into effect in May 2010. According to these regulations, all water utilities throughout the state will be required to provide public notice to each service connection within 24 hours using one of several forms of direct delivery for Tier 1 violations or other situations that require immediate public alert.

GeoDecisions’ experienced staff of professional consultants, analysts, and developers support clients worldwide. Fundamental to the company’s award-winning approach is the integration of spatial information to empower existing systems and processes. GeoDecisions’ philosophy is based on an enterprisewide approach to the integration of diverse information technologies, data formats, and systems.

GeoDecisions is ISO 9001:2008 certified.
