48th Design Automation Conference (DAC) Names Executive Committee

Leon Stok, vice president of IBM’s EDA Group, to serve as General Chair

LOUISVILLE, Colo. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 22, 2010 — The Design Automation Conference (DAC), the premier conference devoted to electronic design and design automation (EDA), has named the members of the 48th DAC Executive Committee (EC). The Executive Committee oversees the exhibition and trade show, plans the technical program, establishes new initiatives, and manages conference operations and publicity. The 48th DAC will be held at the San Diego Convention Center, in San Diego, California, from June 5-10, 2011.

Leon Stok, vice president of IBM’s Electronic Design Automation group, will serve as General Chair of the 48th DAC and lead the Executive Committee. Dr. Stok studied electrical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, graduating in 1986. He obtained a Ph.D. degree from Eindhoven University in 1991. Dr. Stok has published over sixty papers on many aspects of high level, architectural and logic synthesis; low power design; placement-driven synthesis; and the automatic placement and routing for schematic diagrams. He holds six patents in the area of EDA. He was elected an IEEE fellow for the development and application of high-level and logic synthesis algorithms.

Dr. Stok is joined on the Executive Committee by the following volunteers from across the electronics, semiconductor, and EDA industries and from academia:

  • Vice Chair / Finance Chair – Patrick Groeneveld, Magma Design Automation, Inc.
  • Technical Program Co-Chair -- Nikil Dutt, University of California, Irvine
  • Technical Program Co-Chair – Soha Hassoun, Tufts University
  • EDA Industry Chair – Tiffany Sparks, GLOBALFOUNDRIES
  • Past Chair – Sachin Sapatnekar, Univ. of Minnesota, Minneapolis
  • Tutorial Chair – Andreas Kuehlmann, Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
  • Panel Chair – Rich Goldman, Synopsys Inc.
  • Design Community Chair – Robert Jones, Intel Corp.
  • New Initiatives Chair – Yervant Zorian, Virage Logic Corp.
  • Publicity Chair – Michelle Clancy, Cayenne Communication LLC
  • Europe / Middle East Representative -- Georges Gielen, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven
  • Asia / South Pacific Representative -- Kazutoshi Wakabayashi, NEC Corp.
  • ACM SIGDA Representative -- Patrick Madden, SUNY Binghamton
  • IEEE CEDA Representative -- Al Dunlop, Crossbow Consulting, LLC
  • EDA Consortium Representative -- Anne Cirkel, Mentor Graphics Corp.

Kevin Lepine and Lee Wood of MP Associates, Inc, serve as conference manager and exhibits manager, respectively.

“DAC is the cross-road where everyone who works on electronic design or supplies to electronic design meets to see what’s new, what works, and what’s coming up,” said Leon Stok. “For the 48th DAC, the EC has a number of new initiatives under development and will capitalize on the fact that DAC brings designers, researchers, EDA tool developers and vendors under one roof. With a new track on Embedded Systems and Software we are sure that, once again, DAC will be where the action is in EDA. We look forward to an exciting exhibition and conference program in San Diego.”

About DAC

The Design Automation Conference (DAC) is recognized as the premier event for the design of electronic circuits and systems, and for electronic design automation (EDA) and silicon solutions. A diverse worldwide community representing more than 1,000 organizations attends each year, represented by system designers and architects, logic and circuit designers, validation engineers, CAD managers, senior managers and executives to researchers and academicians from leading universities. Close to 60 technical sessions selected by a committee of electronic design experts offer information on recent developments and trends, management practices and new products, methodologies and technologies. A highlight of DAC is its exhibition and suite area with approximately 200 of the leading and emerging EDA, silicon, intellectual property (IP) and design services providers. The conference is sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Electronic Design Automation Consortium (EDA Consortium), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and is supported by ACM's Special Interest Group on Design

Design Automation Conference acknowledges trademarks or registered trademarks of other organizations for their respective products and services.
