Cypress Partners with NVIDIA to Provide High-Performance Touchscreen Designs for Android-Based Mobile Devices

NVIDIA’s DirectTouch Architecture Pairs with World’s Most Advanced Touch Controllers from Cypress to Deliver Very Fast and Low-Power Touchscreen Designs

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — February 24, 2012 — Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY) today announced that NVIDIA and Cypress are collaborating on next-generation touchscreen solutions for Android-based mobile devices based on Cypress’s Gen 4 True Touch Solution and NVIDIA’s DirectTouch™ architecture. The new architecture utilizes the NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 processor, the world’s only 4-PLUS-1™ quad-core processor with a fifth battery saver core.

DirectTouch is a new Tegra 3 technology that offloads some of the touch panel processing to one of the Tegra 3’s four CPU cores for faster touch processing and an improved end-user experience, while also reducing power. Combining this high speed processing with the advanced analog of the Gen4 family will enable very thin displays with excellent responsiveness.

Glenn Schuster, Director of Technical Marketing, at NVIDIA, added, “It’s great to be working with Cypress to improve the customer touchscreen experience. Teaming DirectTouch with Cypress’ touch technology helps our partners create quad-core mobile devices with an even better mobile touch experience and longer battery life.”

“It’s exciting to work on new ways to deliver higher performance touchscreen solutions,” said John Carey, Director of TrueTouch Marketing for Cypress. “As the touchscreen leader, we’re pleased to partner with NVIDIA in making the DirectTouch architecture successful.”
