Technicolor Names Owen Hurley as Animation & Games Creative Director

Paris (France) & Hollywood (California) – April 2, 2013 – Technicolor (Euronext Paris: TCH) today announces the appointment of Owen Hurley as Creative Director of its Animation and Games group.  Hurley will be based at Technicolor Digital Productions’ animation studio in Bangalore, India where he will oversee creative development.


With extensive directing experience across film, games and television animation, Hurley, in his role as Creative Director, is charged with driving the artistic and creative expertise of the Company’s studio in India and executing on its clients’ visions. He will also support the group’s original content development business. Reporting to the management team in Los Angeles, Hurley will have oversight of the creative workflow among the various departments and the implementation of innovative solutions for the studio’s productions.


“Owen, who recently produced and directed Technicolor’s Barbie™ in the Pink Shoes production for Mattel, will be an invaluable member of our creative management team,” said Robert Winthrop, Head of Animation and Games for Technicolor Digital Productions, in announcing Hurley’s appointment. “His wealth of production experience across a multitude of formats and genres, combined with his extensive leadership and project management skills, will serve to grow Technicolor’s Animation and Games unit by ensuring that our studio continues to surpass our clients’ creative and qualitative expectations.”

Prior to working with Technicolor, Hurley served as Director of Animation and Cinematics with Vancouver-based Relic Entertainment from 2005 through 2010.  In this position, he collaborated with some of the world’s best game developers, bringing projects such as Company of Heroes and the Dawn of War series to fruition.

 

Previous production experience includes eight years with Mainframe Entertainment, where he directed episodes of CGI animated series like Beast Wars, ReBoot, War Planets and Weird-Ohs as well as the world’s first computer animated direct-to-DVD movie, Casper’s Haunted Christmas.  Hurley directed the video debut of Barbie in 2001 with the Barbie in The Nutcracker direct-to-video animated film for Mattel Entertainment and went on to direct two subsequent Barbie films -- Barbie as Rapunzel and Barbie of Swan Lake -- before changing his focus to video games with his move to Relic Entertainment.


Technicolor produces high-quality CG animation for feature films, television, direct-to-video, commercials, video games and location-based entertainment through its industry leading production facility in Bangalore, India.  The group launched its original content development initiative in 2010 and is currently in development on several projects, including Berkeley Breathed’s Pete & Pickles; Atomic Puppet, a co-production with Mercury Filmworks; and The Deep, based on an award-winning graphic novel series.  Complementing its services business with original content creation, Technical Digital Productions continues to work with major animation clients including Electronic Arts, DreamWorks Animation, Mattel, Nickelodeon, Rockstar Games, Sony Computer Entertainment America and Square Enix.
