TOKYO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — April 26, 2013Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) has launched a sine-wave brushless fan motor driver IC for home appliances and industrial equipment that offers an industry-leading class1 absolute maximum rating of 500V/2A.

Growing demand in the home appliances market for energy saving increases in power and for lower noise is prompting a shift to inverter-based products, starting with high-power products. Toshiba has responded by developing a line-up of sine-wave motor drive ICs to improve efficiency and reduce noise in fan motors.

The new product, "TB67B000HG", integrates a sine-wave drive motor controller IC and a 500V/2A output IPD2 suited for driving air conditioner fans in a single package. Using the new product rather than two separate ICs can reduce the mounting area3, making it possible to reduce the overall system cost. An increase in the driving current capacity to 2A supports higher power motors.

  1. As a sine -wave motor driver IC, as of April 26, 2013. Toshiba data.
  2. IPD: Intelligent Power Device
  3. An approximate 35% reduction against existing Toshiba products.
