MASON, BRUCE & GIRARD AWARDED GIS REMOTE SENSING PROJECT BY USDA FOREST SERVICE

June 27, 2013 -- PORTLAND, OR - Mason, Bruce & Girard, Inc. (MB&G) was recently selected by the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region 5 for GIS Remote Sensing Services. Scope of the work in the Blanket Purchase Agreement includes GIS data capture and entry; data management; modeling and analysis; programming and application development; and map production.

The project team, which will be lead by James Schriever, Director of Geospatial Services Group at MB&G, is a natural fit for the scope of services to be completed. “We are thrilled to be selected for this key teaming opportunity with Region 5. Our background and skill set is a great match for the Region’s requirements of data capture, application development, geospatial modeling, and remote sensing,” says Schriever, “Working in tandem with our internal Forestry and Environmental Groups, we have a great understanding of the growth forecasting and ecological modeling that is involved in the types of work that will arise in Region 5.”

Schriever and his team have direct experience specific to Region 5, which covers California and the Hawaiian Islands, including past USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region 5 GIS and Remote Sensing Services as well as similar projects including the USDA Forest Service Region 1 Long-term Forest Management, Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks Forest Inventory and Sustainable Yield Study 2012, and the current Oregon Department of Transportation Program Management of Mitigation and Monitoring Sites.

“Our team has previously worked with Region 5, which provides us with a running start and a strong understanding of their operational systems,” continues Schriever.

The Forest Service estimates that it has expended approxiamtley $1,600,000 per year for similar services under previous contracts. Work is expected to start later this summer with a kick-off meeting in Vallejo, California.
