In just two years the company which developed a revolutionary enterprise software
platform as well as cloud-based web applications has grown from having just 4 employees
to a total of 32 and has already opened offices in India and Japan.
September 13, 2013 - Two years after it was founded the innovative start-up
Solair has a more than positive balance sheet: since 2011 the company has grown from having just 4 employees to a total of 32 (50% of which are women), opened new offices in Japan (Tokyo) and in India (Bangalore), inaugurated its new headquarters in June in Casalecchio di Reno, Italy, and on July 1st
launched Solair PLM, the application which uses the innovative cloud-based Solair platform, developed entirely in Italy. On top of all that they were also awarded a public competition from the Region of Emilia Romagna for “Research, Innovation and
Growth” and for a cooperation project with the CIRI ICT laboratory at the University of Bologna on Research and Development.
There are two key reasons for this accelerated growth: on the one hand the company focuses on cloud-based solutions to offer an extremely intuitive “SaaS Platform” model where developers can create SaaS applications easily without having to rewrite codes or worry about infrastructure or middleware, all through a user-friendly interface based on a “drag-and-drop” approach; on the other hand they have the right mix between managers with more than twenty years experience in the product development process and information management sector and young graduates (50% of employees are under the age of 30) to ensure a flow of new ideas to develop cloud-based applications (like Solair PLM) that are highly innovative, easy to use and which customers can customise to suit their needs on their own.
‘We place great emphasis on Research & Development and we invest 40% of our revenues in this area’ explains Tom Davis, CEO of Solair. ‘The fact that we develop our solutions directly in Italy allows us to work closely with our customers to understand their needs better: our Solair PLM cloud-based application was developed thanks to the synergy with a select group of customer companies operating in the manufacturing industry who, as Pioneers, tested a preview of the application thus contributing to its development. Usually it takes between 6 to 12 months to implement and fine tune a PLM while with Solair PLM all you need is an Internet connection and a minimum activation period (2 or 3 days) to set everything up. We are now looking to extend our network of partners so that we can offer our platform and the applications we develop on it not only throughout Italy but also in Europe and Asia’.
The Solair Platform (currently patent pending) aims to revolutionise the world of enterprise software because it makes it possible to develop a solution directly using the cloud, thus avoiding all hardware and software costs for companies. The developers can use the Solair Platform directly to design cloud-based customised applications without having to rewrite codes. Thanks to the “made in Italy” approach, the interface has an attractive design and is easy to use: just move the icons to make your own application. It is based on a pay-per-use model and can be accessed from any device (phone, tablet or notebook) from anywhere.
The Solair PLM application developed on the Solair Platform helps companies of all sizes to manage information, resources and processes through a user-friendly, cloud-based information management system. The solution is also available as SaaS (Software as a Service), which means it will be provided as a service from a remote infrastructure outside the company: the customers only pay for the services they use. The application consists in a set of tools, which are focused on the integration of all steps of the product lifecycle management process, from the birth of the idea, through to the development of a prototype, defining the necessary resources and mass production. Solair PLM is aimed at small and medium-sized companies in the manufacturing industry as well as designers, architects or mould makers who need highly customisable solutions.
