Express Logic to Present Paper on Source Code Quality at ARM TechCon 2013

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 23, 2013Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOSes), will present a technical paper on the value of RTOS source code at the 2013 ARM TechCon in Santa Clara, CA, on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. ARM TechCon is an annual event aimed at embedded systems developers designing products based on ARM-licensed architectures. Thanks to the high quality of source code in Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS, ThreadX has been successfully deployed in over 1.5 billion electronic products worldwide. The presentation will share the benefits gained through this experience.

Paper to be presented:

Most embedded system developers recognize the value of having source code for the RTOS they use, and that this access to source code makes the RTOS easier to use. In fact, this is the number one priority developers consider in selecting an RTOS, according to UBM’s latest embedded developer survey. But exactly why is source code of value? And, is simply having the source code sufficient? Are there qualitative degrees of desirable attributes of source code beyond its simple existence?

To answer these questions, the paper examines the RTOS both externally and internally. The external examination will focus on the RTOS’s Application Programming Interface, commonly referred to as the API. The API provides the interface layer through which application programs access and control the RTOS’s functions. Depending on the API’s design, the developer’s job is easy or difficult. Beyond the API, the paper examines the internal implementation code for the RTOS’s functions and identifies what makes “good code,” what makes “bad code,” why good code is good, and why bad code is bad.

In addition to presenting this paper, Express Logic will launch a new product. The new product and the ThreadX RTOS will be exhibited in the Express Logic Booth, #412.

“ARM is an extremely important partner for us with the majority of our customers using a combination of ARM processor architectures and ThreadX for their device development,” noted William E. Lamie, president of Express Logic. “From our largest customers, like HP, to our many other smaller customers, ThreadX is used in over 1.5 billion deployed units. We invite all those considering ARM for their next device development project to come visit us at our booth and learn how ThreadX can help them bring their product to market.”
