New Release of XVL Studio Enhances Use of 3D Model Data across Engineering/Manufacturing Enterprise

—Version 12.1 Increases Productivity with Enhanced Work Instructions, Support for 3D PDF and 3DConnexion Mouse Devices—

San Francisco, January 22, 2014—Lattice Technology, Inc., an industry leader of technical communication and digital mock up software for the manufacturing industry, today announced XVL Studio version 12.1. This latest release contains features that improve productivity and collaboration capabilities.

Lattice Technology delivers solutions that build on top of existing 3D design data, allowing companies to seamlessly increase the use of 3D data beyond engineering to all segments of the product lifecycle–including to customers. Organizations use the company’s XVL technology as the backbone for sharing 3D model data across the extended enterprise because it is ultra-lightweight (usually one half of one percent of the native CAD model), accurate and remains associated to the native CAD model. XVL is an ideal foundation for uses such as assembly process planning, work instructions, technical illustrations, electronic spare part catalogs and service portals.

“With this release, we continue to make our products easier to use and more powerful,” explained Bill Barnes, General Manager, Lattice Technology, Inc. “Our goal is to make it easy for users from multiple disciplines to leverage their 3D CAD data using XVL. For instance, interactive 3D models can be used by manufacturing engineers to quickly and easily model the assembly process. These models can also be used by writers to create clear documentation and by service engineers to create maintenance documentation or create interactive web pages for ordering spare parts. This latest release of XVL Studio delivers new capabilities that improve productivity in all of these areas.”

Improved Productivity

The most important enhancement to XVL Studio v12.1 involves the work instruction feature set. This new release automates collision avoidance in assembly and disassembly path creation. Additionally, automatic “camera positioning” shows each process step clearly, saving time for users who design these processes.

This latest release also supports industry leader 3Dconnexion’s 3D mouse products, providing XVL users a superior 3D navigation experience.

Additionally, the technical illustration capability has been improved with this release to include several time-saving enhancements. Using XVL Studio, users can easily create technical illustrations as well as interactive 3D illustrations for more effective communication.

Improved Collaboration

XVL Studio v12.1 now fully supports the 3D PDF format bi-directionally with import and export capabilities. Because the ubiquitous 3D PDF format is fully supported by the Adobe Reader® and is available for free, users can share interactive 3D with anyone.

XVL is commonly used to conduct design reviews outside of the native CAD environment. With XVL Studio v12.1 this capability is expanded using new markup tools that better facilitate collaboration.

Another feature that has been updated is the interactive “snapshot.” Using this tool, a user can easily capture and annotate a specific view and send it to another stakeholder. This stakeholder can access the view and still have interactive access to the model.
