Omron Advanced 3D SPI, AOI and AXI Technologies on display at the 2014 IPC APEX Expo

SCHAUMBURG, IL (March 21, 2014) – Omron Inspection Systems ( www.omron247.com) will showcase its most popular PCB Inspection and X-ray Automated Inspection machines at the 2014 IPC APEX Expo trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 25-27.

Visitors to Omron’s booth (#2251) can see some of Omron’s best-selling machines demonstrated, including the:

VT-S500: New Inspection System Using 3D Measurement

With innovative 3D image processing, the VT-S500 accurately analyzes the topographical features of solder fillets to ensure PCB quality and reliability. This 3D technology is capable of performing solder inspections that closely mimic IPC guidelines. Advanced software capable of absorbing production inconsistencies and noise, creates adaptable and stable inspection programs. By minimizing program teaching and tuning times, the VT-S500 greatly reduces inspection costs. With ultra-high-speed inspections and dual-lane availability, cycle times have been slashed and productivity is drastically increased.

The VT-S500 is available with camera magnifications of 10 or 15 microns and is capable of processing PCBs up to 510 mm x 610 mm (in single-lane applications) or 510 mm x 300 mm (in dual-lane applications).

VT-X700: High-Speed, In-Line, Automated 3D CT X-RayThe VT-X700 uses revolutionary, high-precision, X-ray, CT imaging to perform precise and reliable analysis of PCBs, including those with hidden solder joints. Unlike traditional AOI technology, the VT-X700 can inspect  solder quality on a full-range of components from BGAs to chips, and through-hole devices. Inspections are performed very quickly (5 seconds per field-of-view).

By using 3D reconstruction software and laser displacement technology, the VT-X700 gauges the PCB surface for each solder-joint, compensating for any warpage and allowing the system to perform cross-sectional analysis at the proper slice-level locations. Selectable resolutions of 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 microns combined with selectable numbers of X-Ray projections (up to 128) allow for user-driven variation between higher inspection speeds for production environments to ultra-high quality 3D image acquisition for research and defect analysis.

“The 3D reconstruction capability of the VT-S500 and the 3D CT X-ray imaging of the VT-X700 are truly impressive,” said Tim Anderson, Key Accounts Manager at Omron Inspection Systems. “We feel confident that these new technologies will revolutionize PCB inspection.”

VP5200-V: In-line, High-Speed 3D Solder Paste Inspection

The VP5200-V uses a highly accurate and repeatable, true 3D image acquisition to perform complete PCB solder paste analysis. Potential PCB warpage is calculated at each inspection area and the camera will auto-focus to compensate prior to analysis. These features combine to achieve precise volume measurements at an accuracy within 3 percent. The VP5200-V is capable of industry-leading inspection speeds of 8,000mm²/sec. Simple, user-friendly offline programming software creates inspection programs in very short periods of time. With unique features like automatic component registration and self-adjusting lighting, program creation is streamlined.

The VP5200-V touch-screen, color interface and 2D/3D fluid, interactive model generator provides the operator with immediate inspection feedback.  The advanced data analysis software provides complete, quality data for continuous manufacturing process improvement and trend monitoring. The VP5200-V can feed inspection results back to the screen-printer, making necessary print adjustments and eliminating the continuation of defects.
