LED professional sets important incentives for the International Year of Light 2015

With the Tech-Talks BREGENZ, the LED professional Scientific Award and intensive international co-operations, Luger Research e.U., publisher of LED professional, sets the course for the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL 2015).

Bregenz, 24.4.2014 – The IYL 2015 was brought about by UNESCO - together with a consortium of scientific committees and various interest groups.  It is a global initiative with the goal of paying tribute to light as a key figure in research and application and promoting sustainable developments.  With the help of light based technologies, solutions to global challenges in energy, education, agriculture and health can be found.  LED professional will deal with the topics of LED and OLED light technologies, which will take on greater significance in the coming year.

New Round of Talks: Tech-Talks BREGENZ

The Tech-Talks BREGENZ are a series of four to six talks per year with international, distinguished experts from the lighting branch.  The goal of this initiative is to provide the global SSL purchasers of LED and OLED materials, components, systems and services, orientation and help in the areas of technology developments and trends.  The series started in March with Martina Paul, the general secretary of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) on the topic of international standardization in the area of lighting. LED professional Scientific Award at the LpS 2014

The LED professional Scientific Award will be presented for the first time at the LED professional Symposium +Expo in Bregenz in acknowledgement of the IYL 2015.  To promote global lighting research, an international jury of experts will honor the best scientific paper in the areas of LED and OLED light sources.  The LpS event takes place from September 30th to October 2nd, 2014 in Bregenz, Austria. 

Reine Karlsson, professor at the Lund University in Sweden and SSL-erate EU project manager will give a keynote speech on the subject of “Intelligent Lighting for People”.  The second keynote speech will be given by Mark McClear, Vice President of Application Engineering at Cree on the subject of “The Changing Role of Components in SSL Systems”.  Tran Quok Khanh, Professor of Lighting Technology Laboratory at the University of Darmstadt, Germany will present the third keynote speech on the topic of “Color quality of High-End LED Products”. 

Visitors can expect a diversified program with top class presentations, Tech-Panels, workshops, exhibition and numerous networking possibilities.  Over 100 exhibitors and more than 1,300 visitors are expected. 

Boosting Global Information Exchange

In order to supply the SSL industry with up-to-date information from the areas of LED and OLED lighting, a scientific and application oriented exchange is essential.  In order to guarantee this exchange, LED professional has reinforced its co-operations with the International Solid State Lighting Association (ISA) from China, the European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC) from Belgium and the European umbrella organization of the lighting industry, LightingEurope, from Germany.

Background Information 

Location

Bregenz is located on the shores of Lake Constance and is one of Austria’s leading cultural and leisure areas and is at the same time at the heart of Europe. It is the capital city of the state of Vorarlberg and the seat of the provincial government with a population of 28,000. The area is known as a high tech region in the heart of Europe and is only a 2-3 hour drive from other technology hubs in northern Italy, France and Germany.  Vorarlberg borders on Germany, Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. Bregenz can be reached directly by rail and the airports of Altenrhein, Friedrichshafen and Memmingen. The major airports of Munich, Zurich and Stuttgart are less than a two hour drive away.
