According to an article published by KPBS titled, "Art School Aims To Bring Love Of Comics To San Diego Year-Round," San Diego is famous for hosting Comic Con, an annual event for pop culture fanatics. Typically, Comic Con hosts a four-day festival each July where fans dress up and attend press conferences featuring their favorite characters from comic books. After those four days, the world of comic books goes "underground." However, one school is trying to change that.

Alonso Nunez and Patrick Yurick, founders of Little Fish, an art school in Ocean Beach, Calif. that focuses on comic book art and manga art, want to pass along their love of comics to others.  They wanted to create something that would allow comic fans to explore more about the industry all year. "I wanted to kind of open up the comic world to San Diego a little bit more and have a little bit more connection," Nunez says in the article.

Andrew Girard, a representative at ArtSchools.com, a directory of art colleges, supports continued education in art.  "What Nunez and Yurick are doing is remarkable.  They are opening doors for art enthusiasts and comic book fans to learn more, and express themselves as they please," he says. "Art isn't just pictures and colors on paper.  Art is a unique way of telling a story. Some people do that through comic books and manga. This school allows students to explore a different type of art and teaches them how to create something new. It presents students with a unique opportunity to develop their skills and express themselves. It's definitely a great way for fans to satisfy their addiction to comic books, while also shaping their artistic abilities."
