Version 4.2 of PROSTEP's PDF Generator 3D offers useful new functions

Darmstadt, Germany, July 2014 Version 4.2 of PDF Generator 3D from PROSTEP has recently been released. The server solution for 3D PDF has been expanded to include several new functions that will be of particular interest to professional users. These include the comparison of geometric CAD data, enhancement of the 3D ModelScript plug-in and other improvements.

Version 4.2 offers a function for comparing the geometry of assemblies and parts. Geometric comparison can be performed with data from the same or different CAD systems, i.e. comparing NX with NX and Creo with Creo or comparing Creo with CATIA, NX with SolidWorks, and other combinations. It is also possible to customize this feature so that it is also possible to output the comparison of structure, attributes and PMI as a report which is linked with the 3D model.

"3D ModelScript", which is been available since version 4.0, has been enhanced. Conversion results can now be examined with regard to geometric correctness. This is done by calculating surface, volume and center of gravity and comparing these values with the corresponding values calculated in the CAD system. In addition, individual parts of a model can be tessellated again with different degrees of detail, for example based on the dimensions of the geometry. This is extremely useful for displaying individual parts with a higher resolution or for optimizing the file size, for example.

The import of boundary representation (B-Rep) for Autodesk Inventor is new. This means that the conversion of exact 3D geometry (volume / surfaces) into a PDF document is now also supported in this CAD system.

In addition, further optimizations relating to the conversion of visual representations of 3D PMI annotations provide even better support for drawingless processes in particular.
