New Intel-based Box PCs from MEN Micro Offer Maintenance-free, Reliable Computing

Scalable performance for data storage and wireless applications

BLUE BELL, Pa., Sept. 17, 2014 — (PRNewswire) — MEN Micro Inc., a world-renowned provider of embedded computing and I/O solutions for mission-critical industrial, mobile and harsh environment applications, has expanded its line of maintenance-free, rugged box computers with two scalable versions. Powered by the 3rd generation Intel Core i7 processor family, the new computers provide high performance for specific data handling needs.

The BL70S, designed for storage applications such as video recorders or content servers, features a 4-port Gb Ethernet switch with Power over Ethernet (PoE) as well as an additional 1 Gb Ethernet uplink, totaling five interfaces on the front panel.  Two external, hot-pluggable HDD/SSD shuttles support RAID 0/1 capabilities for fast audio or video transfer.

The BL70W offers exceptional wireless computing, whether used alone or connected to a display computer.  By incorporating four PCI Express Mini Card slots, each with a dual SIM card, the box PC supports a full range of wireless interfaces, including GSM (2G), UMTS (3G), LTE (4G) and WLAN.  Also offering a GNSS interface that supports GPS and GLONASS, the BL70W ensures reliable wireless communication across virtually any network.  This is especially useful in transportation environments such as trains, vehicles, airplanes and portable machines.

While the box PCs come standard with an Intel Core i7-3517UE CPU running at 1.7 GHz, other single, dual or quad processors from the 3rd generation Core i7 family can be used, making the computers extremely scalable.

Each box can be equipped with up to 16 GB of soldered DDR3 DRAM, complete with ECC as well as a multitude of I/O options.  Each also offers a microSD card and mSATA slot for added storage capacities.  The fanless computers operate from -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C, using specialized aluminum fins that facilitate conduction cooling.

The integrated S2 wide-range power supply with 24 VDC and 36 VDC nominal input voltage (10 V to 50.4 V) and a power consumption of 30 W is developed in compliance with EN 50155 (railway) and ISO 7637-2 (E-mark for automotive).

MEN Micro's flexible box PC concept ensures easy, cost-effective configuration of interfaces independent of the processor board.  The rugged, maintenance-free design of these computers provides reliable, robust operation.
