greenscreen® completes first green facade Health Product Declaration™ (HPD™)

greenscreen® strengthens its commitment to product transparency by completing the first Health Product Declaration™ (HPD™) for green facade products.

LOS ANGELES, CA, Feb 25, 2015 -- In a continuing effort to forward a progressive sustainability agenda and maintain a strengthening position as an environmentally conscientious product manufacturer, greenscreen® has completed the first third party verified Health Product Declaration™ (HPD™) for green facade products.  The greenscreen® Health Product Declaration covers a standard (48" x 96") greenscreen® panel with a baked on powdercoat finish and the Summary Disclosure Notes state that there was no residual content identified at 1,000 & 10,000 ppm with any of the ingredients present in the final greenscreen® product formulation.

Described by the Health Product Declaration Collaborative™, the Health Product Declaration™ “is a standard format for reporting product content and associated health information for building products and materials.  Building product manufacturers will use it to provide standardized disclosure of product contents, emissions and health/environmental hazard information.  The completion and third party verification of the HPD was conducted by Tox Services LLC and includes all intentionally added ingredients assessed to 1,000 ppm as per LEED v4 requirements.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA and manufactured in North America, greenscreen® is the leader in green wall facade technology and this first to market sustainability initiative reaffirms the continued desire to provide designers and specifiers with the necessary tools to aid in the design of sustainable buildings and landscapes in the future.

Dean Hill, ASLA, Director of Sustainability for greenscreen® feels that the completion of the HPD process is “just another step in the continuation of a corporate commitment to sustainability, while providing our customers with the greatest overall value in green wall technology.  Working directly with Tox Services LLC to complete the process required an investment in human and financial resources, but we felt that it was imperative to be the first product manufacturer in the green wall industry to undertake and complete this initiative to amplify our leadership role.” Hill also states that these evaluations and costs should be part of what every product manufacturer should be willing to invest in to provide the most transparent product choices to support designers working in the sustainability arena.

CEO John Souza, and EVP James Sable of greenscreen®, share Dean’s enthusiasm for corporate environmental responsibility.  “As a company with a history dedicated to establishing sustainable environmental practices, we will continue to pursue and investigate methods that will measure our impacts on the environment and provide our customers with the sustainability information that will be integral to the design of sustainable architecture and landscape architecture projects in the future.  We have invested in our sustainability initiatives and are willing to develop, foster and forward an aggressive environmental mission while at the same time maintaining a commitment to a quality product”.  By making the greenscreen® Health Product Declaration publically available, it is our hope that the A/E/C, landscape architecture and contracting disciplines will learn to expand their understanding and application of Health Product Declarations in order to discern applicable product solutions in an environmentally appropriate manner.

In addition to the completion of the HPD™, greenscreen® has completed a Life Cycle Assessment report and models that have been third party verified and are ISO 14040/14044 compliant.  To learn more about the sustainability initiatives at greenscreen® or for additional sustainability resources, visit www.greenscreen.com

About green walls:  A Green Wall, also commonly referred to as a vertical garden, is a descriptive term that is used to refer to all forms of vegetated wall surfaces.  Green wall technologies may be divided into two major categories: Green Facades and Living Walls.  Green Facade walls are a vertical structural system either attached to a building or free standing that supports the growth of vines or climbing plants that originate either in at grade planting beds, raised planters or containers.  Green Facades are essentially passive in their needs for irrigation and maintenance when used with appropriately chosen vines.  For more information on green facade walls, download the latest design resources at www.greenscreen.com:
