DATE 2016 in Dresden: Highlighting Automotive and Secure Systems

Call for Papers

Jun 17, 2015 -- DATE is the major international event for design and engineering of Systems-on-Chip, Systems-on-Board and Embedded Systems Software and states a unique networking opportunity, bringing together designers and design automation users, researchers and vendors, as well as specialists in hardware and software design, test and manufacturing of electronic circuits and systems.

After the successful editions in Dresden in 2010, 2012, and 2014, DATE 2016 will take place again from 14 to 18 March, 2016, at the International Congress Center Dresden, Germany. It islocated at the banks of the river Elbe at walking distance fromt he city centre and provides state-of-the-art conference facilities.

Dresden is a modern and vibrant city with short distances and acutting-edge technology and economy sector. It is a leading semiconductor site in Europe, concentrating expertise on research, development and manufacturing of leading-edge technologies which drive semiconductor industry to the top. Major players are e.g. GLOBALFOUNDRIES, Infineon, and the Technical University, which is part of the German Excellence Initiative. Silicon Saxony is a registered industry association of 300 companies in the microelectronics and related sectors in Saxony, Germany, with around 20,000 employees. Moreover, Dresden has 11 Fraunhofer institutes, including the Fraunhofer Center for Nanoelectronic Technologies (CNT), the IFW, the HZDR and further research institutes devoted to semiconductors.  It therefore states an excellent venue for DATE 2016.

The five day eventaddresses all aspects of research into technologies for electronic and embedded system engineering. The Call for Papers shows the wide scope of technical contributions, covering the design process, test, and automation tools for electronics ranging from integrated circuits to distributed embedded systems. This includes both hardware and embedded software design issues. The conference scope also includes the elaboration of design requirements and new architectures for challenging application fields such as telecoms, wireless communications, multimedia, healthcare and assistive technology, smart energy, automotive and secure systems.

All papers have to be submitted electronically by September 13, 2015,for standard oral presentation or for interactive presentation.

Two Special Days in the programme will focus on areas bringing new challenges to the system design community: Automotive Systems and Secure Systems. Each of the Special Days will have a full programme of keynotes, panels, tutorials and technical presentations.

High-end cars today have more than 100 ECUs connected by various communication buses, that are used to run several million of lines of software code spanning across safety critical, driver assistance and comfort related application domains. Designing, verifying and upgrading such a complex hardware/software system poses several challenges for EDA engineers, computer architects, and embedded systems and software designers. Hence, there are many interesting opportunities for the EDA and the embedded systems community in the automotive domain thatthe Automotive Systemsspecial day at DATE 2016 will seek to explore in the form of various technical sessions and discussion panels.

Security is essential to create a safe and trustworthy Information and Communications Technology infrastructure. Electronics are becoming more and more integrated into the environment: the Internet of Things, Cyber-Physical Systems, and Smart Cities are all novel phenomena. Data is stored in and travels from implanted medical devices to the cloud over wireless links and through optical fibers. None of this revolution will be sustainable without adding security. During the Secure Systemsspecial day, several aspects of making systems secure will be addressed.

The conference is complemented by an exhibition, running for three days (Tuesday – Thursday),It isa unique networking opportunity for vendors of tools and services for hardware and embedded software for the design, development and test of Systems-on-Chip, IPs, Embedded Systems, ASICs, FPGAs and PCBs including a broad range of design reuse technologies and services.Furthermore, it states the perfect venue for industries to meet University Professors to foster their University Programme and especially for PhD Students to meet their future employers. There will be a full programmeatthe Exhibition Theatreagain, combining presentations from exhibitors, best-practice reports by industry leaders on their latest design projects and selected conference special sessions. This year special attention will be given to proposals matching exhibition thematic campuses on 5G wireless network, 3D-IC integration, FD-SOI, IoT, Automotive and Secure systems.

Submissions are invited from industry consortia, technology groups, standard bodies, or any person with opinions on future industry trends by October 18, 2015.

On the first day of the DATE week, in-depth technical tutorials are given by leading experts in their respective fields. The tutorials are well suited for researchers, tool developers and system designers. On Friday, workshops concentrate on specialized emerging research and application topics. Proposals for Monday Tutorials and Friday Workshops have to be submitted electronically by September 13, 2015.

The whole DATE 2016 Executive Committee also encourages proposals for Special Sessions, European Projects, the University Booth as well as the PhD Forum.
