Superstar Athletes Transform Into Superheroes In New SportsManias Web Series

Superhero Sports Showcases Amazing Athletic Talents with Edgy Animation and VFX

MIAMI, July 9, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —   SportsManias, the diehard sports fan's go-to source for team news, today unveiled its brand new YouTube and Facebook series, Superhero Sports, showcasing the superhuman abilities of superstar athletes by transforming them into comic book superheroes. The new web series serves up sports entertainment designed for a new generation of diehard fans.

Superhero Sports creates a new superhero universe out of America's favorite athletes. The show will feature compilations of timely sports moments augmented with visual effects. Fans can expect baseball players with light sabers, fireballs instead of footballs, and hockey players with jet skates. The aim is to showcase the superhuman abilities of pro athletes.

Today's episode pays tribute to the two biggest stars of the newly crowned NBA Champion Golden State Warriors – Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson – who are known across the basketball world as the "Splash Brothers" in honor of their 3-point field goal sharpshooting. The episode delights viewers with an array of water-themed graphics and animations to elevate Curry and Thompson into being the two newest additions to the superhero universe. The "Splash Brothers" episode kicks off the series, with a full slate of weekly episodes airing in the fall.

Superhero Sports builds on the success of the SportsManias DieHard Tour, the company's original web series hosted by Alex 'Big Al' Perrault, formerly 'MusclesGlasses' of Epic Meal Time, which features tailgating culture, hardcore fans and trademark food from pro and college sports games. The DieHard Tour has racked up 850,000 YouTube views, and the new series will complement it with a unique genre of video entertainment.

Perrault helped build the Epic Meal Time series into an Internet sensation with over 6,000,000 subscribers. As social media director at SportsManias, he has turned his unbridled enthusiasm, appetite and videos towards his real love, sports, and is the driving force behind Superhero Sports and all SportsManias original content.

"The Superhero Sports series is like NFL Blitz and NBA Jam meet Marvel Comics," said Perrault. "It will combine the virtual touch of those classic Nintendo games with superhero storylines and real-life clips. Our goal here is to create a whole new genre of sports entertainment designed for social media-savvy fans."

"Original social content is one of the things that distinguishes SportsManias from other sports media sites," said Vicente Fernandez, co-founder and chief content officer of SportsManias. "We're the go-to source for diehard news, and we aim to be the go-to source for social sports entertainment, too. Our web series all focus on the social web because it has become more than a technology 'tailgate' – it is where the sports media game is playing out right now. The younger generation of diehard fans are shifting from cable to the web."

Visit the SportsManias YouTube Channel to watch the inaugural Superhero Sports episode. Additional web series are already in the production stage as well, as SportsManias continues to develop more and more unique content to engage with millennial sports fans.
