Direct Relief Receives Esri's Special Achievement Award for Exceptional Application of Geospatial Technology

SAN DIEGO, July 22, 2015 — (PRNewswire) — Direct Relief was honored by Esri today with a Special Achievement in GIS Award for its role in developing map applications for the One-Million Community Health Workers campaign (1mCHW), a joint initiative of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network and the Earth Institute at Columbia University.

Esri honored Direct Relief with a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award for its work to build the Operations Room, a suite of mapping applications that use data to track the scope and enable a detailed comparison of the activities of community health workers. "The SAG Awards identify the organizations and people who are using the power of geography to make our world a better place," says Esri president Jack Dangermond, who presented the awards at the 2015 Esri International User Conference in San Diego. "At Esri, we are always deeply inspired by the passion and innovation of our users. They deserve recognition for their invaluable contributions to their communities and the continued evolution of geographic science."

In addition to Direct Relief, Esri honored more than 170 organizations from around the world and across a variety of industries including agriculture, cartography, climate change, defense and intelligence, economic development, education, government, health and human services, telecommunications, and utilities.

"Esri ArcGIS technology has revolutionized Direct Relief's ability to advance its mission and communicate the causes, consequence, and scope of its global operations," said Andrew Schroeder, Director of Research and Analytics at Direct Relief. "By providing Direct Relief and other nonprofits with such powerful spatial analysis tools, Esri is making a profound impact on a broad range of global challenges."
