Woolpert Providing Design, Construction Support to Clopay Expansion

TROY, Ohio (Nov. 18, 2015) —  Woolpert has been contracted to provide preliminary design, construction support, land consolidation and bridging documents for the expansion of Clopay Building Products, it was announced today.

Clopay, a garage door manufacturing and distributing company,  announced the expansion of its Troy facility in October. According to Clopay, this expansion includes improvements and the addition of 200,000 square feet to the firm’s existing million-square-foot building.

Woolpert—an architecture, engineering and geospatial (AEG) firm headquartered in Dayton—also assisted Clopay in the navigation of building code considerations.

“On behalf of Clopay, Woolpert architects were able to present a case to the Ohio Board of Building Appeals to allow for increased travel distances that made the expansion of the Troy facility more viable and less disruptive to build without sacrificing safety standards,” said James Dobrozsi, Woolpert project manager.

Clopay is headquartered in Mason, Ohio, and employs more than 900 people in the state. The company reported that this expansion will allow for more than 200 new jobs at the Troy site by 2019.

Clopay has worked with Woolpert for close to a decade on multiple projects.

Raul Villarreal, Clopay’s director of project engineering, said, “We have a good relationship with Woolpert; they are a great professional resource.”

This expansion project is expected to be completed by mid-2016.
