Construction Authority Releases Audio Tour of Foothill Gold Line Art for Tomorrow's Historic Opening Day

MONROVIA, Calif., March 4, 2016 — (PRNewswire) —  With less than 24 hours remaining to the historic opening day of the Foothill Gold Line from Pasadena to Azusa tomorrow, March 5, 2016, the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority has released an on-line audio tour of the art of the project – art-tour.foothillgoldline.org.

The tour is meant to provide riders an easy way to learn about the wonderful artwork installed along the light rail line by the project's nine talented artists. As riders reach each station, they can click on an audio link to hear about the artwork at that station, or get more details about the artwork and artist on the webpage devoted to each station and/or project element:

The audio tour is a condensed version of a commemorative book published by the Construction Authority for the grand opening of the line, entitled Art of the Journey, the Foothill Gold Line. The book was designed by Jim Cokas of Jim Cokas Design and edited by Meg Linton.

The E-book - and links to the audio tour, art-tour.foothillgoldline.org - are available on-line on the Construction Authority's website – foothillgoldline.org, the Construction Authority blog – iwillride.org, Facebook.com/iwillride and Twitter @iwillride.

Quote from Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority CEO, Habib F. Balian: "Each of the artists was asked to create art that is reflective of the individual corridor communities. Through their work, the six Foothill Gold Line stations look and feel unique, and all offer a glimpse into the rich history, and distinct natural and cultural resources of the area."

About the Foothill Gold Line – The Foothill Gold Line is a nearly $2 billion, 12-station extension of the Metro Gold Line light rail system, being overseen by the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority, an independent transportation planning and construction agency created in 1998 by the California State Legislature. The project is planned in two segments – Pasadena to Azusa and Glendora to Montclair. The Pasadena to Azusa segment is fully funded by Los Angeles County's Measure R. Metro will start passenger service on Saturday, March 5, 2016. Measure R is funding the majority of the cost associated with the advanced conceptual engineering work currently underway for the Glendora to Montclair segment, which will ready the project for a design-build procurement in 2017. The Construction Authority is currently seeking the $1.2 billion needed to construct the Glendora to Montclair segment.
