Dialog Semiconductor Plc.: Dialog Semiconductor System PMICs Power Any Single- or Dual-Core ARM(R) Cortex A(R) Processor

DA9061 and DA9062 PMICs provide a high performance, low cost solution for scalable and adaptable power

LONDON — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 13, 2016 — Dialog Semiconductor plc (FWB: DLG), a provider of highly integrated power management, AC/DC power conversion, solid state lighting (SSL) and Bluetooth(R) low energy technology, today announced that its DA9061 and DA9062 power management integrated circuits (PMICs) are available in production quantities. These highly efficient, cost-optimized PMICs can power a broad range of processor-based devices. Applications include handheld consumer, industrial embedded, smart home, and automotive systems.

The DA9061 and DA9062 PMICs can be powered from a single cell Li-Ion battery or a 5V supply and are designed to meet the minimum requirements in a system for core, memory, peripherals and IO supplies. Each PMIC can power single- or dual-core system processors or, when combined with Dialog's multi-phase sub-PMICs, seamlessly power complete multi-core systems requiring greater than 20A on the core supply.

"Effective and efficient power management has a tangible effect on the user's experience with mobile computing devices and embedded electronics," said Paul Wheeler, Vice President ASSP Mobile Systems. "The DA9061 and DA9062 PMICs feature power-saving technology that provides our customers with very competitive power management solutions for a wide range of system requirements."

The 8.5A DA9062 system PMIC has four powerful switching buck regulators, two of which can be merged to deliver 5A for core processors. Another buck regulator can be used for efficient DDR3 memory termination. The buck regulators operate at 3MHz to allow the use of small external components. This, with the small QFN40 package, ensures the highest power density for the end product.

Maximum energy saving can be achieved by employing the programmable and flexible sequencing power-state manager to control the buck output using Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS). Output voltages down to 0.3V can be realized. Where fewer supply rails are needed, further cost savings can be made by using the 6A DA9061 PMIC. This has fewer features and contains one less DC-DC supply.

Evaluation boards with Dialog's SmartCanvas(TM) graphical user interface (GUI) are available to optimize PMIC configuration during product development.

Available in high volume production quantities, both PMIC devices are packaged in a low cost QFN package. The QFN package option with its exposed pad ensures the devices run cooler than alternatives on the market. Pre- programmed standard variants are now available in automotive AEC Q100 G3 and industrial grade options to power popular single and multi-core system- on-chip solutions.
