“In the Portégé X20W, we developed a professional grade 2-in-1 convertible PC eliminating the need to choose between a laptop, a tablet or even a notepad,” said Carl Pinto, vice president of marketing and product development, Client Solutions Division, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. “From the perspective of performance, mobility, battery life and usability, the Portégé X20W epitomizes what the future of mobile computing will look like for the foreseeable future.”

A 360-degree, dual-action hinge allows the Portégé X20W to easily transform from a powerful, performance-oriented notebook into a premium digital inking tablet by simply rotating the display. Measuring 15.4mm thin and weighing less than 2.5 pounds1, the Portégé X20W has a battery life rating of up to 16 hours2. This combination of usability and mobility is ideal for any business learning environment or prosumer.

To meet the performance demands of the modern workplace, the Portégé X20W encompasses a 7th Generation Intel® Core™ Processor, Windows 10 Pro, 12.5-inch diagonal Full HD multi-touch wide viewing angle display, Intel® 802.11ac Wi-Fi®3 and a solid state drive all inside its durable magnesium casing. This next-generation 2-in-1 convertible PC delivers enterprise-level security through the adoption of facial authentication, fingerprint reader and Trusted Platform Module technologies4.

“Toshiba’s Portégé X20W is the type of mobile solution we want to offer at our stores, its unique blending of form factors and innovative features is exactly what our customers’ demand,” said Peter Han, vice president of Partner Devices and Solutions, Microsoft. “We have worked with Toshiba for three decades on many projects and the Portégé X20W is a testament to the organization’s ingenuity when it comes to mobile computing.”

One Solution, Five Modes

The Portégé X20W convertible 2-in-1 laptop features a sturdy 360-degree dual-action hinge, enabling smooth transitions into five core viewing modes—Laptop, Tablet, Tabletop, Presentation and Audience. Tackle the day with a slim, high-performance laptop, flip the screen to conduct presentations, be entertained or create through an engaging tablet and digital inking experience. When changing modes, the laptop smartly switches system settings and uses a smart-locking feature to protect the keyboard and prevent mishaps.

Gorgeous 1080p Display: Visual Impact

A 12.5-inch diagonal, Full HD (1920 x 1080), multi-touch wide viewing angle display packs over 2 million pixels onto the screen. Text is sharper and easier to read. Color and quality is spot on. And to top it all off, the display of the Portégé X20W is reinforced with all-new Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4, which offers higher levels of damage resistance as it’s better able to withstand the shock of accidental bumps.

Amazingly Natural Handwriting

Coupling the 12.5-inch diagonal display with Toshiba’s exclusive TruPen® incorporating Wacom® Feel technology, allows Toshiba’s 2-in-1 convertible PC to deliver a professional grade digital handwriting experience enhanced by an antiglare coating. Toshiba’s TruPen can detect 2,048 levels of pressure, giving users a natural pen-on-paper writing experience, making the Portégé X20W perfect for taking notes, drawing, capturing signatures and completing forms. This makes it nice for Windows Ink. Since the TruPen is battery powered it communicates with the display to enable palm recognition when the pen is in use.

Leading-Edge Security Features

Toshiba developed the Portégé X20W with both biometric and facial authentication technologies to deliver an advanced level of security and distance itself from the competition. This is the first Toshiba computing solution to incorporate the SecurePad™ with Synaptics® Natural ID fingerprint sensor4 built right into the computer’s Touchpad. The Portégé X20W features two IR cameras to allow for facial authentication via Windows Hello face sign-in. These two technologies are personal, secure and a password-free way to quickly log-in to your device.

Windows 10 Pro

With a pair of IR cameras, multi-directional microphones, touchscreen and an AES pen, Toshiba engineered the Portégé X20W to maximize the advanced features of Microsoft’s powerful operating system such as Windows Hello, Cortana, Microsoft Edge and Windows Ink.

A Commanding 360° Sound System

The Portégé X20W laptop delivers a premium audio experience via Harman Kardon® stereo speakers and DTS Sound™ software. Toshiba’s exclusive custom-tuned speakers adapt to the rotational view of the display, delivering a robust, crisp and natural audio from every angle.

Modern Ports with Expanded Capabilities

To achieve its slim profile, the Portégé X20W has a USB Type-C™ port, USB 3.0 port and headphone/mic combo port. As the industry’s new universal standard, the USB Type-C port on the Portégé X20W features reversible plug orientation and supports Display, Power Delivery and Thunderbolt™ 3 with speeds up to 40Gbps5. Toshiba will offer multiple USB Type-C™ Adapters for expansion and to connect legacy accessories. The five USB Type-C adapters will support power pass to charge the Portégé X20W while connecting to devices such as an external monitor simultaneously.

Advanced Docking Options

The Portégé X20W is compatible with two advanced docking solutions– the Toshiba WiGig® Dock6 and Toshiba Thunderbolt® 3 Dock7, which will be available later this quarter. These docks are designed to expand the overall productivity of the Portégé X20W through a single connection.

Pricing and Availability

The pre-configured Portégé X20W (Slate Gray) will be available soon at Microsoft Store and microsoftstore.com, while the Portégé X20W (Onyx Blue) will be available later this month from Toshiba’s web site.
