NASA Selects Surrey Satellite US ESPA Platform for Rapid III On-Ramp 3 Catalog

ENGLEWOOD, COLO., January 25, 2017 — Colorado-based  Surrey Satellite Technology US LLC (Surrey) has been selected by the NASA  Rapid Spacecraft Development Office (RSDO) for inclusion of its SSTL-150 ESPA satellite platform in the third  NASA Rapid Spacecraft Acquisition Catalog (Rapid III). Through this contractual framework, Surrey is able to directly engage with NASA and other government agencies for provision of satellite solutions.

Suitable for a wide range of mission objectives, the  SSTL-150 ESPA platform has a baseline performance of 65 kg payload mass and 120-watt peak payload power. As an option, Surrey can tailor this satellite platform to fulfill specific customer, mission, orbital, and payload requirements.

The SSTL-150 ESPA platform joins the existing Surrey family of platforms already in the catalog, including the  SSTL-150SSTL-300, and  SSTL-600.

Rapid III is a multiple-award contract that provides a rapid and flexible means for the government to acquire spacecraft and related services in support of science and technology needs. The selected contractors are eligible to compete for future spacecraft systems that NASA or other federal government agencies may require. The principle purpose of the Rapid III contract is to provide core spacecraft systems with any necessary modifications to meet specific mission needs. The baseline scope of work includes design and development of the core spacecraft, testing, payload integration and test, launch operations support, and on-orbit checkout.

Becky Yoder, Surrey’s chief financial offer, commented, “We are proud that NASA has selected our ESPA platform for inclusion in the catalog, validating the platform’s performance and capabilities. The catalog, which includes three other baseline platform offerings, provides us with an efficient means to deliver our cost-effective, full mission solutions, and we look forward to exploring new mission opportunities through this contracting vehicle.”

The SSTL-150 ESPA platform forms the baseline for Surrey’s  OTB mission, currently being integrated in Surrey’s Englewood, Colorado, facility and scheduled for launch within the next year.
