Canon U.S.A. Continues its Commitment to Working with the Arbor Day Foundation's Reforestation Program and Reaches Yearly Milestone

MELVILLE, N.Y., Oct. 23, 2017 — (PRNewswire) —  In its ongoing efforts to help protect the planet, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, continues its commitment to the Arbor Day Foundation "Replanting Our Forests" program, reaching its 2017 goal of helping to contribute to the distribution and planting of 50,000 trees this year. To date, Canon contributed to the planting and distribution of more than 460,000 trees since it began its affiliation with the program in 2009.

Canon and Arbor Day Foundation

As an incentive to drive Canon's efforts through the program, Canon helped contribute to the distribution and planting of one tree for every eligible imageRUNNER ADVANCE multifunction system sold from April 1, 2017 up until the company reached its target goal of 50,000 trees. Canon designed and manufactured the imageRUNNER ADVANCE series, in which all current products are ENERGY STAR® certified and rated EPEAT® Gold, with environmental concerns in mind. Designed to help users achieve low-energy consumption, the imageRUNNER ADVANCE multifunction systems include efficient fixing technologies and toner that requires little heat for fusing. They can also help minimize waste with sustainable features, such as Secure Print and Forced Hold that allows users to hold, preview, and change print settings at the device.

"Environmental sustainability and community engagement are two supporting pillars of Canon," says Toyotsugu Kuwamura, executive vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "Arbor Day Foundation's mission mirrors our Kyosei philosophy and our pledge to make a difference in the community and help care for the environment."

The Arbor Day Foundation's global reforestation initiatives aim to rebuild forest areas that are in desperate need of regrowth. This year, active U.S.-based replanting efforts are taking place in 35 forests across 23 states. Canon's support helps contribute to the distribution and planting of trees on Tate's Hell State Forest in Florida as part of their landscape management to dampen the effects of strong rain storms, as well as the Webb Tract, an impaired watershed in Illinois.

"Canon's corporate support is incredibly beneficial to our 'Replanting Our Forests' program, and we thank the company for their ongoing support and dedication to our cause," concludes Dan Lambe, president, Arbor Day Foundation. "Their active presence in our program can be seen in revitalized forests, neighborhoods, and communities that are beginning to regain benefits to quality of life that they previously lost due to deforestation."

The Kyosei Philosophy

Canon continues to be dedicated to its corporate philosophy of Kyosei, which signifies all people working together for the common good. Canon seeks to achieve its goals of energy and resource conservation, as well as reducing environmentally hazardous materials used in its products. Canon shares this philosophy through various environmental, conservation, recycling and sustainability initiatives. Earlier this year at the Canon Americas headquarters, Canon employees began to plant and dedicate trees on the headquarters' grounds to commemorate anniversaries and milestones, as well as to continue to embrace its corporate philosophy of giving back to the environment.
