HP Accelerates Democratization of 3D Printing With Breakthrough Full Color Platform

News highlights:

PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --  Today HP Inc. expanded its 3D printing portfolio with the introduction of its new Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series of 3D printers, the industry’s first 3D printing technology to enable manufacturers to produce engineering-grade, functional parts in full color, black or white – with voxel control – in a fraction of the timebsp; of other solutions.  Depending on configuration and color preference, the Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series is available starting in the $50,000s, enabling small- to medium-sized product development teams and design businesses, entrepreneurs, and universities and research institutions to access HP’s industry leading Multi Jet Fusion printing technology.

The new Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series complements HP's existing industrial-grade Jet Fusion 3200 / 4200 / 4210 3D solutions which deliver the lowest cost per part2 and are designed for manufacturing environments. With this portfolio expansion, HP is providing users of its Multi Jet Fusion solutions the ability to prototype and produce new designs and applications on the same platform and stay ahead with a future-ready technology for voxel control beyond color.

“HP is committed to democratizing 3D design and manufacturing, unleashing new possibilities for millions of innovators around the world,” said Stephen Nigro, President of 3D Printing, HP Inc. “No matter your industry, no matter your design complexity, no matter what colors fit your business needs – black, white, or the full color spectrum – the new HP Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series gives you the freedom to create brilliant new parts liberated from the constraints of traditional production methods.”

HP’s unique ability to control part properties at the individual voxel level enables the design and production of previously unconceivable parts and is now available, for the first time, in full color.  Whether in healthcare, automotive, consumer goods, or other industries; or for entrepreneurs, designers, or university researchers with the next great idea; the potential of new 3D printing applications is enormous. HP is already engaging in the co-development of new color applications with universities and businesses around the world including Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Yazaki Corp., and Youngstown State University, amongst others.

“At Phoenix Children’s Hospital, we strive to create personalized experiences benefitting the long-term well-being of our patients,” said Dr. Justin Ryan, Cardiac 3D Print Lab, Phoenix Children’s Hospital. “From visually-appealing casts and corrective devices, to custom surgical guides, to interactive and personalized anatomical models, we see tremendous value in the design possibilities and highly-accurate and durable parts from HP’s new 3D printers.”

Innovation for Small- to Medium-Sized Development Teams, Businesses and Educators

In addition to providing voxel-level control, the new Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series of 3D printers has a compact design, enhanced workflow solution, and the world’s first integrated and automated materials delivery system, enabling greater unattended operation, ease of use, and dramatically increasing production efficiency and output. The Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series also supports the three leading color file formats (OBJ, VRML, and 3MF) enabling designers to reliably and easily produce the parts they want without the inconvenience of file conversion or data corruption.

The HP Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series offerings include:

“I'm excited about the range of applications for functional multi-color 3D printing,” said Terry Wohlers, President, Wohlers Associates Inc. “It's good to see that HP is targeting this interesting and largely untapped opportunity. The possibilities are infinite.”

Building on HP’s Open Approach to Materials Development

The HP Jet Fusion 300 / 500 3D printers will launch with a new material, HP 3D High Reusability CB PA 12. Parts using this material will have mechanical properties similar to the HP 3D High Reusability PA 12 material from HP’s industrial solutions.

Leveraging HP’s unique Open Platform for materials and applications development, HP will work with its growing materials ecosystem to grow the material breadth and drive costs down. The Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series will ultimately support similar materials as the Jet Fusion 3200/4200/4210, and also support unique materials that enable color or other voxel-level capabilities.

The HP Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series of 3D printers is available for order today and will begin shipping in the second half of 2018. For complete details and technical specifications please visit HP.com/go/Color3DPrint.

Partner Program Delivers Broader Capabilities and Targets New Resellers

As HP expands its product portfolio with the Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series, today it also highlighted the evolution of its global 3D printing reseller program – the HP Partner First 3D Printing Specialization program – including a variety of new options provided to partners selling HP’s Jet Fusion 3D printing solutions.  As HP continues to increase its market reach and builds out its global go-to-market structure, it is now enabling solutions providers with specific manufacturing industry expertise, global digital transformation, and IT solutions expertise to deliver Multi Jet Fusion technology for customers around the world.

HP today also unveiled a new collaboration with Dassault Systèmes, a leading provider of 3D design software with millions of users in more than 140 countries, to empower a new era of product design innovation by entrepreneurs, makers, students, and businesses. The two companies intend to optimize Dassault Systèmes’ industry-leading SOLIDWORKS 3D design and engineering applications to take advantage of the unique voxel-level capabilities of HP’s Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing solutions.

Changing the Way the World Designs and Manufactures

Attendees at the SOLIDWORKS World 3D design conference have the opportunity to experience the industry’s most comprehensive end-to-end solutions for every phase of the product design process at HP’s booth #301. In addition to the HP Jet Fusion 300 / 500 series, HP announced new workstation, VR, and, 3D Printing and Scanning products and services which are also on display at the show.

  1. Based on internal and third-party testing for HP Jet Fusion 580 and 540 3D Printers, printing time is a fraction of the time of the printing times of comparable plastic fused deposition modeling (FDM), stereolithography (SLA), and material jetting solutions from $20,000 USD to $120,000 USD on market as of June, 2017. Testing variables for the HP Jet Fusion 580 3D Printer: Part quantity: 1 full build chamber of parts from HP Jet Fusion 3D at 10% of packing density versus same number of parts on above-mentioned competitive devices; Part size: 30 cm3; Layer thickness: .08 mm/0.003 inches. Competitor testing variables are comparable.
  2. Based on internal testing and public data, HP Jet Fusion 3D Printing Solution average printing cost-per-part is half the average cost of comparable FDM & SLS printer solutions from $100,000 USD to $300,000 USD on market as of April 2016. Cost analysis based on: standard solution configuration price, supplies price, and maintenance costs recommended by manufacturer. Cost criteria: printing 1build chambers per day/ 5 days per week over 1 year of 30-gram parts at 10% packing density using HP 3D High Reusability PA 12 material, and the powder reusability ratio recommended by manufacturer.
