(Nasdaq: ACLS), a leading supplier of enabling ion implantation solutions for the semiconductor industry, announced today the nomination of Dr. Tzu-Yin ("TY") Chiu to the Company's Board of Directors.  Dr. Chiu brings to Axcelis over 30 years' experience in the semiconductor industry and a record of accomplishment managing successful semiconductor manufacturing companies at the executive level. Dr. Chiu's expertise spans technology research, business development, operations and corporate management. Dr. Chiu will be presented for election at the company's annual shareholders meeting on May 16.

Dr. Tzu-Yin Chiu is the non-executive Vice Chairman of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation ("SMIC"), one of the leading semiconductor foundries in the world and the largest and most advanced foundry in mainland China.  Dr. Chiu assumed his current position on his retirement from SMIC in May 2017. Prior to that, Dr. Chiu served as SMIC's CEO beginning in August 2011. Dr. Chiu serves on the Board of SMIC, also since August 2011. In addition, Dr. Chiu served as Vice Council Chairman of China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA) and a board member of Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA). He is also a member of the Engineering Advisory Board of University of California, Berkeley.
