Parade Technologies Introduces Industry’s First Single Chip TED (Tcon-Embedded Driver) that Supports VESA eDP 1.4b Panel Self-Refresh

New 1932-Channel TED provides highly integrated solution for slim LTPS and Oxide TFT panels up to 1920x1200 resolution

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — May 8, 2018Parade Technologies, Ltd. (Taiwan OTC: 4966.TWO), a leading high-speed interface, video display, and touch controller IC supplier, today announced a new highly-integrated eDP Timing Controller (Tcon) embedded driver (TED) IC developed for thin-profile LCD display panels. The TC3210 provides a single chip display driver solution to replace the traditional eDP Tcon mated up with separate source driver chips. The TC3210 was developed for Chip-on-Glass (COG) applications to support the new generation of sleek LCD panel assemblies.

The TC3210 is configurable to support all panel resolutions up to 1920x1200 using an 18 or 24-bit color format. Its integrated eDP Tcon fully supports the VESA eDP 1.4b standard including PSR (Panel Self Refresh) and PSR2, using an on-chip, integrated frame buffer, and supports a variety of proprietary video interface protocols offered by major CPU, GPU and SoC vendors. The integrated source drive supports up to 1932 output channels and supports 1 to 2 MUX, 1 to 3 MUX, and 1 to 6 MUX sub-pixel driving structures to significantly reduce the number of required source driving outputs, accordingly.

“Parade has remained the leading eDP Tcon supplier starting with the introduction of eDP ten years ago,” said Jimmy Chiu, Executive VP of Marketing at Parade Technologies. “We have also become a major supplier of high speed point-to-point source drivers, and now the TC3210 brings this expertise together into a single chip. One chip means less panel power and BOM cost, and a sleeker form factor for the system OEMs.”

The TC3210 is designed for Flip Chip on Glass application on both LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) and Oxide TFT (thin-film transistor) panels. The mounting of this highly integrated chip directly onto the LCD panel results in reduced display form factor, BOM cost, and power consumption, all of which benefit portable, battery-powered systems. The TC3210 requires no external crystal or timing reference, includes a programmable gamma buffer, and includes Parade’s exclusive Smart-Backlight™ feature for additional color and power optimization. Its fully programmable row and column driver timing enables the TC3210 to serve a broad range of panels types, and it provides synchronization signals that support a wide range of touch controllers.

Availability

The TC3210 is offered in a gold-bumped COG (Chip-on-Glass) physical form factor. Samples are available now.
