The ASIC chip design required verification of over 2 million gates and 80,000 flip-flops, with 12 different clock domains with speeds up to 250MHz. Original projections indicated that 8GB of memory would be sufficient to run the EDA (electronic design automation) process. The customer's EDA team selected an HP c8000 dual processor system, one of the most powerful workstations available in the market today, containing 8GB of main memory. However, the process required over four days run time, which proved the original memory configuration insufficient. Dataram's memory solution containing four of its 8GB memory upgrades (DRHC8000/8GB), for a new aggregate system capacity of 32GB, reduced run time by approximately 94 hours.
"Memory plays a significant role in the speed, power and performance of advanced workstations running complex EDA applications," stated Paul Henke, Dataram's Director of Product Marketing. "Larger memory capacity delivers greater performance gains and ROI than can be obtained from additional or faster processors."
Dataram offers a complete line of memory upgrades for HP servers and workstations, and also other popular EDA workstations from SUN, IBM and SGI. Dataram memory saves customers up to 50% when compared to the cost of manufacturers' memory. Dataram guarantees its memory to be 100% compatible and is backed by a lifetime warranty and world-class technical support.
