Stereo D supports LACMA’s Upcoming Exhibition 3D: DOUBLE VISION

Leading 2D-3D studio provides expertise, innovations to extraordinary museum show

Los Angeles, CA - July 12, 2018 -  Stereo D, a subsidiary of Deluxe Entertainment Services Inc., and the leader in 2D-3D production for feature films is proud to be part of 3D: DOUBLE VISION opening at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and on view from July 15, 2018 - March 31, 2019. It is the first American exhibition to survey a full range of artworks, dating from 1838 to the present, that produce the illusion of three dimensions.

The award-winning studio known for its work on feature films ranging from James Cameron’s “TITANIC in 3D” to Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity Wars,” Stereo D began consulting with Head of the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department and the Prints and Drawings Department at LACMA, Britt Salvesen, and the exhibition’s technical consultant, Jill Smolin, for the project in 2016 on stereo presentation technology and imagery. The Stereo D team, led by Johnny Fisk, VP Production Animation and Scott Johnston, VP Animation, Art, and Technology, and artist KC Barnes then went to work on the digital image restoration of the archival still photography, film and video footage, and artworks.

“The proprietary tools we use to create full length feature films in 3D enabled us to assist the LACMA team with the digital image cleaning and stereo rectification, as well as preparing the archival material for the various formats used in the exhibition while maintaining the integrity of the original imagery,” said Stereo D’s founder and President William Sherak. “We’re thrilled our artists and technology could be part of this important show.”

In addition to the restored historical content, stereographic imagery created by Stereo D for feature films will be among the many samples of 3D art visitors will be able to view as part of the show. Showcasing the very latest in 3D film and cinema technology, visitors will be able to view 3D film clip reels projected onto a state-of-the-art REAL D Ultimate Screen installed specifically for the exhibition.

“From the beginning, we knew the success of the exhibition would depend in large part on the perfection of the digital assets – we hope to satisfy the high standards of 3D experts and provide a seamless experience for 3D novices. The team at Stereo D, with their knowledge of historic material and their unparalleled skill in the digital realm, have helped us to realize this goal,” said Britt Salvesen, Head of the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department and the Prints and Drawings Department at LACMA.
