SAN FRANCISCO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 23, 2020 — The Design Automation Conference (DAC), the only event devoted to electronic design and design automation of electronic circuits and systems, has named Harry Foster, Chief Scientist, Verification for the Design Verification Technology Division of Mentor, a Siemens Business, as the 58th DAC General Chair. Rob Oshana, VP Software Engineering Research and Development, Microcontroller Group at NXP Semiconductors, will join Harry as Vice Chair for the 2021 conference. Under their leadership, the DAC Executive Committee (EC) will oversee the exhibition and trade show, plan the technical program, establish new initiatives, and manage conference operations and publicity. A diverse group of volunteers has been selected from across the semiconductor, design, research, embedded systems, intellectual property, and electronic design automation (EDA) industries to join the 2021 EC.

The 58th DAC will be held at Moscone West Center in San Francisco, CA, from July 11–15, 2021. DAC will co-locate with SEMICON West 2021, which is being held July 12–15 at Moscone North and South halls.

In addition to his role as Chief Scientist Verification, Harry is also the co-founder and executive editor of Mentor’s Verification Academy. Harry is an industry authority and sought-after expert on functional verification and the original developer of the Open Verification Library (OVL) for assertions. He holds multiple patents in verification and has co-authored six books on verification. Harry was a recipient of the Accellera Technical Excellence Award for his contributions to developing industry standards. He was past chairman of the Accellera Formal Verification Committee and past Chairman of the IEEE-1850 PSL Working Group and pioneer of assertion-based verification methods. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Texas, Dallas.

58th DAC EC members are:

“Since its beginnings 58 years ago, DAC has evolved its core automation focus to include both design and automation, such as the design of embedded systems, machine learning/AI architectures, 5G, security, autonomous systems, and cloud computing. Today, DAC is recognized as the premier event that brings together designers, EDA engineering teams, academia, and the vendor community,” Harry said. “Over the next year, I look forward to working with Rob and the talented executive committee that we have assembled to continue DAC’s evolution with an amazing technical program and exhibitor experience.”

About DAC

The Design Automation Conference (DAC) is recognized as the premier event for the design of electronic circuits and systems, and for electronic design automation (EDA) and silicon solutions. A diverse worldwide community representing more than 1,000 organizations attends each year, represented by system designers and architects, logic and circuit designers, validation engineers, CAD managers, senior managers and executives to researchers and academicians from leading universities. Close to 100 technical sessions selected by a committee of electronic design experts offer information on recent developments and trends, management practices and new products, methodologies and technologies. A highlight of DAC is its exhibition and suite area with approximately 175 of the leading and emerging EDA, intellectual property (IP) Design Infrastructure and electronic design ecosystem providers. The conference is sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and is supported by ACM's Special Interest Group on Design Automation (ACM SIGDA).
