IriMap launches a free online service to use WMS resources

January 12, 2021 -- There is a huge number of WMS resources offering free online high value maps.  A single European region can offer more than 1.000 layers freely available and with high potential of use and improve the efficiency of citizens, enterprises and public institutions.

However, it is necessary to use advanced tools just to see and analyse this high value datasets. Heavy clients, or very specialised online services, are available for scientists, but not easy to be used by non-GIS technicians.

Web Map Service (WMS) is a standard protocol developed by the Open Geospatial Consortium for serving georeferenced map images over the internet. These images are typically produced by a map server from data provided by a GIS database. WMS is not a web page, it is an internet address (URL), ready to receive queries from specialised clients. IriMap allows to connect to these WMS Services just in few minutes.

Other option is to use each and every map viewer published by the public institutions, but these map viewers are not standardised, and they are all different.

IriMap is a new free online tool that solves this situation. The aim of this platform is to bring this high value contained in the public maps to the final user.

IriMap is a project of International LSSP OU, a start-up based in Estonia. We do believe that environment can be improved with the power of location intelligence, and our aim is to make the use of the environmental maps easy for any user. www.irimap.com
