ER Mapper sponsors Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society of Great Britain

United Kingdom, October 3, 2006 -- ER Mapper recently sponsored the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society of Great Britain (RSP Soc of Great Britain) Annual Student Meeting 2006 in the United Kingdom. ER Mapper provided a node locked license of ER Mapper Professional – an easy-to-use geospatial image processing application to the award-winning student. An ER Mapper Professional floating license was also given to the University where the student attended.

The Award Winning student this year was Mr Peter Hunter from the University of Stirling in Scotland who presented a paper on “Monitoring change in the phytoplankton communities of inland waters using high spatial and spectral resolution remote sensing data”. Mr Hunter is completing his PhD in “Remote sensing for the assessment and monitoring of shallow lake environments: the Norfolk Broads (U.K.)”.

The School of Biological and Environmental Sciences, of the University of Stirling, where Mr Hunter currently studies, are going to use ER Mapper in their remote sensing taught courses and research projects. The main focus of their research is on the application of remote sensing in lake, river and estuaries and their associated wetlands environments. They have previously worked on international projects such as the remote sensing of contamination induced tree stress in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone; and the remote sensing of water quality in Lake Balaton in Hungary, to name a couple.

Ms Cristina Robinson-Marras, General Manager, ER Mapper UK said, “We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to sponsor the annual student meeting of the RSP Soc of Great Britain where papers of very high scientific standards were presented. ER Mapper has always put particular emphasis in supporting the academic world and this prize confirms our continued commitment in this sector”.

Mr Hunter, Award Winning Student, University of Stirling said, “The ER Mapper software has proved to be invaluable, not only in the context of my own PhD, but to the wider School of Biological and Environmental Sciences at the University of Stirling. The user interface is extremely accessible and basic image processing tasks can be accomplished at the click of a button, making it ideal for teaching and research activities. I now might even complete my PhD on time! It is very pleasing to know that ER Mapper Technology is actively supporting young scientists at such an important stage in their research careers”.
