Ricoh Adopts Cadence Virtuoso Platform for Its Advanced Custom IC Design Flow

SAN JOSE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Jul 15, 2008 -- Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), the leader in global electronic design innovation, announced today that Ricoh Company Ltd. has adopted the Cadence® Virtuoso® custom IC design platform as its comprehensive design flow solution. Citing significant gains in productivity and design reliability, Ricoh adopted the Virtuoso platform for its front-end methodology with the Virtuoso platform, including replacing its in-house layout tool with the Virtuoso layout solution

Using the latest Virtuoso technology, Ricoh was able to cut verification run time by half and double layout productivity on a very complex power-management IC, increasing design reliability for an IC that was significantly more complex than previous designs. Cadence technologies that were key to the evaluation included Virtuoso Layout Suite GXL, Virtuoso Schematic Editor L, Virtuoso Multi-Mode Simulation, Virtuoso Spectre Circuit Simulator and Virtuoso Spectre® RF.

"Consumer electronics devices are becoming more and more complex, and we're facing challenges to improve our design productivity and reliability," said Fumiaki Kadowaki, manager, CAD Engineering Section, Imaging System LSI Development Center, Electronic Devices Company, Ricoh. "We have been collaborating with Cadence to establish a holistic analog IC design flow based on the Virtuoso custom IC design platform. We have seen significant productivity improvements with our most complex larger designs, which has enabled us to spend more time on design verification, leading to greater reliability."

"Ricoh has achieved key productivity goals by consolidating its analog design flow to the Cadence Virtuoso platform that provides an integrated solution for custom IC development," said Srinivas K. Raman, corporate vice president, Research and Development of Cadence. "It's one of many companies reaping the benefits of the holistic approach Cadence takes in helping its customers solve their toughest IC design, verification, and implementation challenges."

Separately, Cadence also announced that Ricoh has selected Cadence as its primary supplier for digital IC design.
