Mindspeed(R) and ARM Deliver Dual-Core Comcerto(R) 100 Processors With Leading Performance/Low Power

NEWPORT BEACH, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Jul 29, 2008 -- Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that it has achieved industry-leading performance for power-sensitive applications through an ongoing collaboration with ARM in designing Comcerto 100 broadband gateway processors.

The Comcerto 100 provides the leading performance-power-cost profile in its class, delivering 2 Gbps at 1.7W power with two channels of voice-over-IP (VoIP). The integrated system-on-chip (SoC) features two ARM1136J-S™ processors, offering broadband gateway manufacturers a single-chip solution with an attractive bill-of-materials (BOM) cost.

Other advancements to result from the collaboration include the development of carrier-grade voice with Mindspeed enhanced echo cancellation for emerging applications including voice-enabled end nodes at the customer premises.

"We are proud of the performance we have achieved to date with our family of Comcerto broadband gateway processors," said Preet Virk, senior vice president and general manager of Mindspeed's enterprise and customer premise equipment. "The ARM architecture enables us to offer service providers the quality of service (QoS) functionality they require for today's sophisticated applications and the performance to support future multimedia capabilities delivered to multiple end-nodes."

"Mindspeed's Comcerto 100 family realizes the performance requirements of next-generation broadband gateways for power-sensitive communication applications such as power-over-Ethernet (PoE) enabled access points," said Ian Ferguson, director Enterprise Solutions, ARM. "We look forward to continuing to work with Mindspeed to address service provider gateway requirements for delivering voice, data, video and cellular applications to homes and small businesses."

With real-time processing such as voice, video and packet forwarding optimized to reside on one of the ARM processors and non real-time processing such as network monitoring and subscriber management on the second; the Comcerto 100 broadband gateway architecture protects the quality and reliability of revenue-bearing services while providing application headroom for future service deployments. Because of this asymmetric multicore partitioning, OEMs and service providers can easily program higher level applications without worrying about the impact to real- time functionality or headroom limitations due to shared processing resources.
