mental images Unveils New Version of RealityServer at Siggraph

LOS ANGELES—(BUSINESS WIRE)—August 11, 2008— mental images, a global leader in rendering software and visualization tools, today unveiled RealityServer® 2.2, the server-based, highly-scalable 3D web application and services platform available to developers and system integrators. The new version is particularly geared towards providers of 3D web application services, including Software-as-a-Service solutions.

RealityServer software platform was designed from the ground up to be the web application services platform for achieving the highest-quality renderings for large large-model visualization in 3D. It allows users to create and deploy 3D interactive web services and applications across numerous disciplines including aerospace, automotive, architecture, product design, product showcasing and product configuration. Ideal for geographically dispersed collaboration, RealityServer enables real-time viewing and interaction with high image quality across the web without the need for downloads or client side viewer applications.

Unlike client-based 3D solutions, RealityServer software platform maintains and processes original content securely on the server streaming in response to the users choice, allowing the user to interact with the largest of datasets from any remote location. Since the content remains secure on the server, it frees the client from the need for plug-ins, client-side applications, additional storage, memory, CPU or GPU demands. This provides unlimited scalability as the user base grows.

We recognized the need in the marketplace for high-quality, scalable server-based 3D visualization solutions more than five years ago. But back when we first started talking about RealityServer, people thought we were crazy to think that the processing power and bandwidth for such a solution would be available much less at a reasonable cost per user, said Rolf Herken, CEO and CTO of mental images. The types of demonstrations you see at Siggraph merely scratch the surface of what is possible and illustrate the need to be designing for the future. Its this type of innovation that moves us forward.

RealityServer software platform can produce a full image quality spectrum via its multiple rendering options. Two of these rendering options the high quality ray tracer and the interactive graphic card renderer are used in the 3D Room Planner at mydeco.com.

We wanted to provide our customers and prospective customers with a fun and interactive way to visualize how furniture and accessories would look in their own environment, while at the same time delivering a positive user experience. RealityServer has helped us deliver that as the platform on which our 3D Room Planner is built, said David Kelly, CEO, mydeco. With the 3D Room Planner component of our website, we have found visitors are staying on our site longer, exploring different options and even dabbling in interior design sharing their creations with larger online communities.

Note to Editors: Demonstrations of RealityServer software can be viewed during Siggraph 2008 (Aug. 11-15) at the booths of NVIDIA, Booth #554/655; BOXX Technology, Booth #546; or in action at the Rome Reborn Exhibit part of the New Tech Demos in Hall G.
