Weichai Power Improves Cross Functional and Departmental Collaboration with PTC Windchill

Users Increase Productivity, Reduce Errors and Improve Efficiency

NEEDHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), The Product Development Company®, today announced that Weichai Power, one of the largest diesel engine manufacturers in China, has been able to optimize and streamline its product development processes using PTC’s Windchill PDMLink® and Windchill ProjectLink™ solutions. The deployment of Windchill has improved cross-functional and departmental collaboration involving both engineers and other corporate users. Weichai Power’s deployment of Windchill ProjectLink and Windchill PDMLink into a PTC Product Development System (PDS) extends its current use of PTC solutions which has included Pro/ENGINEER® and Pro/INTRALINK® for the last five years.

“The automobile industry currently needs to reduce product development time while maximizing productivity management and advancing quality control,” said Xu Xinyu, chief information officer, Weichai Power. “Given the intense competition in the diesel engine and powertrain market, the PTC PDS has become our key competitive advantage to ensure quick response to customer demands and collaboration with partners.”

Weichai Power purchased PTC Windchill to meet its rapidly expanding collaboration needs in product development. Windchill was implemented incrementally, starting with Windchill ProjectLink for project collaboration and Windchill PDMLink for product data management. Windchill enabled Weichai Power to significantly enhance its productivity and effectiveness by providing a central source of information for products being designed and manufactured. It also unified the production teams working concurrently across various departments while providing strict configuration and change management functions with powerful automated workflows. The result is a shortened product design cycle, higher quality products and lower costs.

With improved product lifecycle management capabilities, Weichai Power users were able to share historic data, 2D drawings and 3D models, test specifications as well as BOM data in a single integrated platform for content and process management, enabling consistency and accuracy. Within months, Weichai Power achieved 98% of BOM data accuracy, leading to reduction in errors during the design and manufacturing processes, thereby bringing its powertrains to the market place faster.

“We’re seeing significant improvements in our processes using PTC Windchill capabilities such as BOM data management,” said Mr. Han Lisheng, PDM project manager of Weichai Power. “Our product development team highly depends on the collaboration technologies to deliver their work. With Windchill, we can control the information and manage the development process throughout the lifecycle of a product.”

“We are pleased to see the successful deployment of our Product Development System at Weichai Power. We have shared a very close working partnership with Weichai Power over the years,” said Prayush Saraswat, director of automotive product and market strategy, PTC. “We are confident that PTC will continue to support Weichai Power in its key business demands for innovative products and faster time-to-market.”
