Avago Technologies Announces Miniature FBAR Band 2 High Isolation Duplexers for UMTS Handsets and Data Terminals

SAN JOSE, Calif. & SINGAPORE — (BUSINESS WIRE) — July 1, 2009 Avago Technologies today announced a new miniature PCS duplexer that has been specifically designed for use in UMTS Band 2 handsets. The ACMD-7407 duplexer, which is the latest addition to Avago’s family of PCS duplexers, is 33 percent smaller than its previous versions. Designed using Avago’s own FBAR technology, this UMTS duplexer has a common footprint and targets designers of PCS handsets, and data terminals operating on the U.S. PCS frequency band. Avago is a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications.

The ACMD-7407 is a low insertion loss, high isolation duplexer that was developed using Avago’s innovative Microcap bonded-wafer chip scale packaging technology. This process enabled this UMTS PCS duplexer to be assembled in a molded chip-on-board module that is less than 0.9 mm high with a footprint of 2.0 by 2.5 mm. Additionally, the ACMD-7407 duplexer enhances the sensitivity and dynamic range of PCS receivers by providing more than 55 dB isolation of the transmitted signal at the receiver input, and more than 47 dB rejection of transmit-generated noise in the receive band, thus enabling the removal of interstage Tx and Rx filters.

Avago’s ACMD-7407 provides one of the industry’s best insertion loss capabilities to minimize power consumption and achieve superior receiver sensitivity. The maximum insertion loss in the Tx channel is only 2.7 dB which minimizes current drain from the power amplifier. Insertion loss in the Rx channel is 3.2 dB maximum to improve receiver sensitivity. Moreover, the superior power handling capability of the FBAR bulk-mode resonators supports the high output power levels needed in PCS handsets while adding virtually no distortion.
