MAXON at SIGGRAPH 2009
MAXON’s 13th year at SIGGRAPH stands to be its most memorable with scheduled demonstrations and how-to’s that reveal the power, flexibility and ease-of-use of its leading CINEMA 4D and BodyPaint 3D software applications in the production of award-winning 3D motion graphics, broadcast graphics and promos, feature films, film/game/television pre-visualization, interactive gaming and video production.
MAXON Booth Highlights - #3219
Press and show attendees can expect to see guest artists from several MAXON customer sites and educational institutions who will present a wide range of techniques and creative solutions that inspire them to push the boundaries of 3D technology and help them maximize their software investment. Tom Quach, senior texture/matte painter at Sony Pictures Imageworks, will show the compelling visual effects look in Watchmen. The creative team at Innovative Show Design (ISD) will demo the making-of several broadcast set design projects—most recently for the Super Bowl XLIII and Poker After Dark, both for NBC, and the 2009 Speed Week at Daytona 500. MAXON also welcomes Dr. Volker Sassmannshausen, a.k.a. Dr. Sassi, a noted CINEMA 4D power user and prolific contributor to MAXON’s online education and training resource, Cineversity, to preview, JET (Junior Extraterrestrial); a short animated feature piece he is creating in-full as a solo endeavor that concurrently documents each step in the animation process for a new series of comprehensive tutorials for the Cineversity site. In its ongoing emphasis to inspire the next generation of 3D artists, MAXON will host Alan Williams, an MFA broadcast design & motion graphics student at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and winner of this year’s prestigious Inspire09 symposium’s ‘9 x 90 Competition’, who will present his winning motion-media design project, Meditations in a Toolshed. A complete schedule of guest appearances will be available daily at the MAXON show booth, # 3219.
MAXON is also pleased to announce that two of its customers have created computer-generated animated films that will be screening at the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival including: Nucleus Medical Art, for its medical animation entitled “Atherosclerosis," which features a graphic depiction of atherosclerosis and the process at the cellular level when arteries become blocked, causing a heart attack; and Betsy Kopmar, a painter, artist, animator and instructor at Ex’pression College for Digital Arts, who used MAXON CINEMA 4D in a ‘free-form’ style in “ Night Fishing with Cormorants,” a meditative piece inspired in part by the 17th Century Japanese screen painting by Kano Tanyu of the same title and the novel “Shipwrecks” by Akira Yoshimura that will be showcased in the Visual Music category.

In 2009, both CINEMA 4D and BodyPaint 3D have continued to inspire artists from around the world who have relied on the software to develop imagery for such notable films as Watchmen, G-Force, and the upcoming Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs; the popular cinematic trailer for the futuristic video game Front Mission Evolved; an award-winning episode of the cult-classic television series Doctor Who; and to create motion graphics for some of the broadcast industry’s most widely recognized entities, including The Weather Channel, MTV, CMT, Comedy Central, Al Jazeera, NBC, FOX, NFL, Court TV, National Geographic Channel, Univision, the BBC, and many more. Last month, CINEMA 4D garnered the “Best Animation and 3D Product” award at the Macworld (UK) Awards; its third award win in this category from the venerated magazine.
