July 27, 2009 -- 3-GIS, an Alabama based software development and services company, has announced that East Central Oklahoma Electric Cooperative will install its web-based design and full edit engineering GIS tool, Network Express, this summer.
The East Central Electric service area covers 3,000 square miles and includes portions of Creek, McIntosh, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Tulsa and Wagoner counties in Oklahoma. East Central selected Network Express GIS for its browser based, thin-client capabilities, easy to adopt user interface and utility specific tool sets. Network Express will also serve as the central data repository and communications link to third party applications, including WindMil EA, DataVoice OMS and Itron staking. East Central will also utilitize the 3-GIS mobile application, Field Express Chameleon, to take GIS data to the field for automated inspections, maintenance and field inventory data collection procedures.
3-GIS will take East Central’s existing data and recently collected field data and consolidate into an ESRI MultiSpeak data model. 3-GIS will use the latest, standardized integration components including MultiSpeak and Web Services to share data across their existing third-party technology environment. East Central will continue their internal field collection project using Field Express Chameleon to further enhance the asset repository. Network Express GIS provides database query and reporting functions helping to automate and reconcile results from mobile operations.
Dave Sermons, Engineering Manager at East Central Oklahoma, reviewed other vendors providing GIS technologies to coops and found that Network Express provides the most user friendly system, with scalability and a foundation based on ESRI Server Advanced Enterprise. Sermons states, “We are leveraging 3-GIS technology both in the field and back-office. We explored other ESRI technology and have found that 3-GIS offers the next generation of GIS technology. Network Express GIS will serve as a central data repository for our asset data and communicate with our third-party applications while Field Express mobile will help automate processes in out mobile environment.”
Dan Brooks, Vice President of Sales for 3-GIS, says “We have worked very closely with Dave and are deploying a solution unique to his specific business issues and third-party application requirements. We know Dave has a lot of experience evaluating technology and helping utilities take their processes to the next level. We are excited to be working with East Central Oklahoma and appreciative of Dave’s exploration of our technologies and his collaborative approach to our upcoming project. We are happy to welcome Dave and his team to our community of users.”
