Design Through Manufacturing Takes Products from Good to Great

Jon Godston shares sizzling design-for-production specifics at Design & Manufacturing Midwest Expo, Sept. 30, 2010

CHICAGO, Sept. 8 — (PRNewswire) — As president of Geochord Ltd. ( http://www.geochord.com), Jon Godston is a nationally esteemed innovator with a mechanical engineering background and a fervent passion for innovation and design who has been helping companies develop products in many categories, everything from furniture to electronics, medical devices and more. That, along with his holistic product-development approach, is exactly why he's been selected to facilitate a workshop at the upcoming Design & Manufacturing Midwest Expo, taking place at Chicago's Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Sept. 28-30, 2010.

Godston's workshop -- "Design THROUGH Manufacturing: How product designs make it through production without losing their sizzle" -- will provide companies with key insights about how initial product designs can navigate manufacturing and business constraints to reach mass production with their innovative spark and sizzle intact. It will also introduce tools and methods for applying best thinking practices, and make a product go from "good to great."

"I'm really revved up about the 'Design THROUGH Manufacturing' workshop, mainly because I'll be able to provide a wide scope of information within a five-hour format," Godston says. "I'll cover big-picture aspects of great product development, as well as many specifics, including common challenges, key strategies for success, new developments in innovation, production and manufacturing, economics and quality control, sustainability objectives, and much more -- all in a helpful, how-to format."

Godston's "Design THROUGH Manufacturing" workshop runs on Thursday, September 30. Highlights, such as how to reduce product-development time while minimizing cost of design changes and how to validate design direction and adjustments quickly, will be supported by case studies and real examples from Godston's 13 years of consumer-product experience. Through his rich background in product development, helping turn out hot-ticket items such as the Xbox 360(R) Slim with Kinect Motion Controller and Coalesse(R) SW_1 Collection, Godston has proven to be a cutting-edge resource in the furiously competitive consumer products industry.
