Tesla Motors Selects Apriso’s Manufacturing Execution System to Accelerate Production

Apriso’s software will provide operational precision and flexibility for Tesla’s advanced battery production, Powertrain manufacturing and Model S vehicle assembly – key requirements for Cleantech companies introducing rapidly evolving green technologies and products

LONG BEACH, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 8, 2010 — Apriso, a leading provider of software solutions for sustained manufacturing operational excellence, today announced Tesla Motors has selected Apriso’s FlexNet as its enterprise Manufacturing Execution System for advanced lithium-ion battery and Powertrain components manufacturing, and assembly of its highly anticipated Model S sedan.

Apriso’s FlexNet will provide Tesla a manufacturing platform for real-time visibility and control of its manufacturing operations, helping Tesla to remain agile through changes in technology and market demand. Apriso’s solution will provide Tesla comprehensive product and process genealogy, which will then be used as part of Tesla’s best practice production and in-line quality processes. FlexNet will help drive customer satisfaction while keeping manufacturing and IT costs low.

“Tesla is committed to delivering exceptionally well designed and engineered products. Built to the highest quality standards, Tesla aims to be the benchmark for all electric vehicles,” said Jim Dunlay, VP of Engineering and Manufacturing, Tesla Motors. “As we continue to drive new innovations and expand operations, Apriso’s robust manufacturing platform will give us the flexibility we need to rapidly deploy new features and technologies into our manufacturing processes.”

Tesla designs, engineers and manufactures electric vehicles and lithium-ion battery packs for customers around the world. The Palo Alto, California-based company makes the Tesla Roadster, the only zero-emission electric sports car. There are over 1,200 Roadsters on the road today in 28 countries. The Roadster is Tesla’s first premium electric car in its mission to make electric vehicles increasingly available and affordable for the mainstream market.

“One of the biggest challenges automakers face today in the production of electric vehicles is the continuous innovation cycle related to battery development and the smooth introduction of these innovations into manufacturing,” said Fred Thomas, Industry Director at Apriso. “We’re delighted to work with Tesla to put in place a manufacturing execution system with the flexibility, control and operational visibility across manufacturing and supply chain operations that can support Tesla’s continued leadership in the development and production of battery technology and electric vehicles.”

“Our partnership with Tesla is one more example of Apriso’s growing presence in the Cleantech industry, and underscores the importance the right solution plays in the manufacturing of sustainable energy technologies at a cost that supports widespread consumer adoption,” added Mr. Thomas.
